Rock climbing harness for hunters

Sorry it did't work out.

I won't say I'm surprised. I didn't want to bang on it but your experience isn't far off from my thoughts about my Fusion Harness.

I've found myself arriving at quite different conclusions than Jason in most of his recent videos. Maybe that's just preference or manner of use, but I was pretty sure about this one.

I think it's good you're sharing your true thoughts, instead of reselling it as the next best thing.

I agree, and I think Jasons friendship with John made him a bit biased in that one

I agreed with most of what he said in that one. Bracket just sucks lol
To bad about your saddles. I confess I also own a beast stand. I had to put a bat wing on it. I also had to sand off the edges on the post where the strap touches it because they were starting to damage it.

Thought I'd give another update. After two hunts in, I can definitely say I hate this harness with all my soul :tearsofjoy: . There's so many things that annoy me about it I don't know where to start
What are you going to use?

My tried and true HSS ultra lite. Love that harness. Dead silent, carries both my beast sticks on each side without clanging and banging. Extremely comfortable to use with a linemans belt.

I climb with me linesman and tether attached. What scares me about a tree stand harness, if I fall while climbing and the tether catches me. Because the connection point is behind me head, my face and chest is going to get slammed into the tree. I think I will climb with my saddle.

I ordered the dryad killdeer to use as my safety harness while hunting out of my hang on tree stand. I was attracted to it because I feel that self rescue will be easier in this style of harness. If my safety tether is rather tight and short is it reasonable to assume that I will be safe during a fall?

You shouldn’t hit the ground but it won’t be fun. Try hanging from it.

It will save your life. But you will be hurting. I have the tactisaddle harness, and if I fall I might as well forget about having kids as the boys will be demolished

I don’t think any fall will be fun or comfortable but the goal for me is to be able to self rescue. Facing the tree vs away from it (in a full body harness) seems safer.

I envision about a two or three foot semi taught tether hooked up front on the loop and then attached to the tree Above my belly button behind me.

I encourage you to practice self rescuing.

thanks for the encouragement but I’m kinda curious if this sounds like a relatively safe set up. Anyone running something similar?

"safe" is a relative term. Hunting out of a conventional tree stand, with slack, I'd suggest a dynamic tether, with some sort of shock absorber, like a screamer or friction plate:

I am not a professional climber or instructor. I'm just some rando on the internet, so do additional research beyond my suggestions.

Thanks for the replies. I’ve watched the OSHA videos where the dummy looks like a freaking rag doll in falls, and the full body is the only one they approve. In most cases people carry a ton of slack in their safety tether while sitting in a tree stand. I certainly DO NOT plan on that. The way I see it if I have a relatively tight, short safety tether attached to the tree above my midline then any fall I should have will be very minimal and the most movement will just be swinging around to face the tree. To me this seems much safer that how most people run a traditional full body harness. Its a work in progress but I believe I’m headed in a good direction. I was hoping maybe other people had experience with something like this before.
