Sewing Machine Deals for the DIY Guys

Unless you just absolutely love it or have a nostalgic connection, its not worth $150. You can get other machines for under $50 that will work just fine for the average stitcher. Look for 15-91s or save another $300 and pick up a lu-563 when you see one.

Thank you!

Can I ask why you would look for a machine like that? I know a little of the history of those machines, just curious if you have any firsthand knowledge of them..?
First hand knowledge....

Ahh, I’m familiar with that thread. Used the link you posted to snag some of the camo 500D from eBay. Thanks for that. Righteous build too, looks pro!

Thanks for the info!

Looks like a pfaff 145 or 545. If I didn’t already have too many sewing machines I would have already been on my way to get it.

What kind of machine would you guys look out for if I want to have something setup for edge binding? Currently have a dnu-241h but I’m not seeing an edge hinder for that model and don’t really want to swap back and forth.

If you want a synchronized right angle binder setup on the cheap, find a used juki 563 or clone, then buy the synchronized binder and parts needed (for a juki 1508/1510) from khsew. With shipping from Taiwan it was about $260. Then dremel out a small area on the fork that holds the feed dogs, install, setup and run with that.

jhunter13 turned me onto that solution. He has the setup running on his Juki 563 clone. With guidance from jhunter13, i installed and am running the binder on my Juki 563. I just was able to do some practice binding in the last few days. It will be my dedicated binder machine.

If you don’t want/need synchronized binder, you can get a swing away binder that may be able to screw into the bed of your machine. You can also get non-synchronized right angle binder. I have a swing away binder from sailrite that works on my consew 206.

If you don’t go that route, then maybe a Pfaff 335 or clone (cylinder arm) with synchronized binder setup would work.

Lastly, if you have access to a Pfaff 545, you can semi-diy

Since I want to be like jhunter13 and he knows what he is doing and I had a 563, it was a no-brainer for me to follow his lead.

Lastly, everything that i read and heard indicated that a synchronized right angle binder is the best option when sewing around tight curves.

Juki 1541-S, $350, Norristown, PA (near Philadelphia)

This seems too good to be true, so do your due diligence if you pursue this deal. Check the seller and his profile and make sure it is face to face sale and not delivery.

I did a google reverse image search and did not find anything. So that is potentially good news.

This one will not last long.

Can you all tell me if a JUKI DLN-5410N is a good machine?
Per juki's website it appears to be for light to medium duty/work. It might not work well for making saddles.

What do you plan to use it for?

Not for saddles, but for pouches, straps, and stuff like that. I know its an older machine, but really am not very savvy in the sewing department. But someone gave me this one so I am going to try and learn.
