SH1KAR Monarch

I myself am skeptical about the the cleats but it’s clear in the video the guy is using rope instead of webbing. Are the cleats designed for rope, webbing or both? The other video from staggs showed the stick from OOAL cam with webbing not rope.

I am the guy in the video. The specs on the cleats all mention rope diameter nothing about straps. Just trying to save some heartache for some.

Dang that’s even worse. Good looking out! What rope are you using? I’m sorry I didn’t watch the whole video or with sound.

I hate to do this but I must. Public Service Announcement. If you have purchased a Sh1kar with the intention of using it onesticking and you can.....CANCEL your order. The sail cleat will not release from above the stick.

Not to say it won’t be the same scenario, but you appear to be using a side entry V cleat, not a Port/Starboard fine line Clam Cleat with webbing as OOAL.

I see you mention the other cleat and have one, but what’s used in the video isn’t quite the same thing.

I just got the side entry one to play around with. Are we saying that might be the more difficult of the two to deal with from above the stick?

I wouldn’t claim anything without testing. I’m just pointing out that what the video shows is cordage not strapping being used on a different model cleat than what is being supplied on the Sh1kar.

Looks like Staggs struggled some to release the strapping from the fine line cleat on the Sh1kar and mentions in doing so the cleat nicked the webbing.

I never got excited enough over these cleats to purchase any to test, although I had looked at V cleats from another brand some time ago.

Frankly, it looks like the cleat performed better than I had envisioned as a fastening option on a regular climbing stick, not that I’m necessarily advocating that.

Here is a follow up with a different cleat. I think these sail cleats are a solid option for multiple sticks. Jury is still out for onesticking.

Second video didn't look bad. Interesting sitting directly over the stick when removing it as opposed to the side.

But you have to back down like that instead of just being able to flip the rope out you are losing height. Makes one sticking less efficient and probably have to do another move to get to the same height. I will stick with a tried and true cam cleat.

I forgot I had a set of digital calipers. 7/64 full bury amsteel is 4.5mm 1/8 full bury amsteel is 5.5 mm. I feel the traditional cam cleat is still the best option for one sticking. I am done jacking with the sail cleats.

What size amsteel did you try?

Did either work better than the other? I’ve taken two falls with the flat strap and am looking for a better option.

Full bury 7/64 if you are using the cleat that comes on the stick.

Yikes. What happened?

I'm still waiting for mine, but based on the feedback so far, I'm thinking it might be better to replace with cam cleat.

Who knows I think I’ve been setting it like Matt shows in his videos and twice I’ve been standing on it and it just fell out from under me.

Wow that's crazy. Crossed off the list.

Sounds like bad news to me... if this cleat and or stick would have been tested before it was sold, then these problems could’ve been avoided...

We did 5 total practice runs yesterday in the snow and had 0 issues with the cleat or the strap. Only thing we found was sometimes the strap would unhook easy and sometimes you had to give it a pull. But no slipping or issues. Platform is nice and if the stand off was a inch further from the tree it would be perfect.

Wow that’s interesting to hear. I feel like I’ve had nothing but issues. Besides the strap slipping out of the cleat while I was on it, it’s a pain to avoid the point of the cleat with the strap, and other times it gets wedged it so far that I can’t even pull it out from above.
