Sheds and dead’s 2023

Amazing!! My dog found a button for me a few years ago and it got me thinking how nearly impossible it would be to find one. Care to tell us how on earth you noticed it?!!!!
It was in a washed out spot where water had washed away all the leaves and debris. It was straight dirt. I happened to be crossing the washout there.

I have zero clue why and am puzzled why I was never into sheds much, I usually find quite a few that I have most at home.
That's just me and everyone enjoys different things.
since about ten years ago when I really focused in or around good bedding where I know the bucks are hanging late season I started to find and see a lot more sheds and dead's in or around food sources or travel corridors. Why?
Who knows maybe its just because that's where the bucks spend most of the time of the day. In and around bedding.
My tips would be to find more sheds and dead's would be to
I do believe if you shed hunt you should revert back to timing of food and where and when the deer are late season.
If I was to be really hard core shed hunter ,I would be focusing on Late season bedding areas and just outside of them.
To be short and sweet, Everything revolves around seasonal food sources If its a late season food there should be a good bedding area close by.
I do focus this year on starting over and rescouting areas which I need to know what went wrong and what went right and try to figure out why and when.
Good luck guys and please be safe and make or keep it fun.

I was impressed with the mass and tall brow on this little 3 pt shed also. This area has some good genetics.

What part of the country are you in?

There are no good deer in Maryland, remember! Shhhh lol
Haha! I've given up beating that drum. The last 2 years have been brutal with the amount of people in the woods. Everyone says it's a good thing, but I can see personally it's taken a major impact on my local deer herd. With less deer, will come with less hunters over time. The deer will bounce back. Just 3 years ago the hunting was easily twice as good as its now. Time to adapt.

At 30 deer per square mile there’s plenty to share. I wonder: do cars kill more deer in MD than hunters!
Just from my personal observation, road kills seen where way down. Usually during rut you get a big influx, but I just didn't see it. However the most road kill seen this year for me was between January and February the last 2 years. Kind of strange. I think MD is around 100,000. Hunter kills each year for whole state.

My concern in places like Maryland is that increased hunter numbers results in deer being pushed into places like suburbia where hunter access is limited. Statewide deer population won’t decrease proportionate to hunter numbers increase and hunting public land will get increasingly challenging. Adaptation may mean knocking on doors and hunting on the edge of backyards.

Been walking a lot myself and most are still carrying both antlers according to cams. My issue is they shut down walking on April 1 for turkey season and for the life of me, I can't get myself to focus on shed antlers when I'm turkey hunting.

Shed hunt until 9:30-10 when the gobbler leaves his hens and gets stupid. ;)
