Sheds and dead’s 2023

Shed hunt until 9:30-10 when the gobbler leaves his hens and gets stupid.

Please, don’t mention turkeys yet…

I found this deadhead while out scouting today. I did 5.1 miles and found 2 really good spots and several B spots worth a hunt. That makes 23.7 miles of scouting in February (I'm keeping up with my scouting miles this year just for fun).

Found last years right side to a buck i call “trying to be a 12pt”. He was a typical 10 with attempts at kicker points on both G2s. I have the left side I picked up last year. Really wanting to find this years sheds. I’d say he was at least a 2 year old last year so he’s going to be a target this coming year for sure

As I found it.

And uncovered

His brow wasn’t an inch and that little kicker on his G2 isn’t an inch (hard to see in pic) but he wants to be. He was an 11pt this year as one of the kickers still wasn’t quite an inch.

Squirrels are slow compared to porcupines. They can devour a good shed in.a week if they set their focus to it.

Agree. No squirrels or porcupines in that part of VA. apparently. Would be only splinters left if that were ayear old where I am.

2022 Shed Hunting Thread

how are you New England fellas finding these consistently? I have had no problem finding sheds in NJ/ PA but rarely find any since moving to NH with the lower density. I scout a healthy amount in the off season I keep track of where the bucks are in the antler shedding phase, without bothering...

Probably the part that was under the leaves from a mouse. Nice find

All Arkansas public I hunted that spot Saturday and he walked thru Sunday

I assume time and date isn't set on the cam or is that an older pic? Looks like what would be an early October pic up here in the east. Still in summer coat with full belly of fat an no swollen neck yet from rubbing or sparring.

The time and date are correct. That is on a NWR and it turned to sanctuary November 15th every year. We don't see rut until second or third week of November here.

Went out Tuesday evening for a hour after work, and walk a field again that I’ve walked out 3 times the past two weeks, and since a week ago there was two fresh sheds. Then this morning went out and found these two matching sheds, and then walked 6 miles the rest of the afternoon and got skunked.
