Show Us Those Hunting Bikes

Picked this up unseen from a buddy. Seems like a cool bike. It has those wider tires too. Trek Roscoe 7? It’ll get me where I’m goinView attachment 78887
A hardtail 29er would be my go to hunting bike if I could legally use one where I hunt. I can't, so hanging on to my (purple glitter paint, I wish I could timberpimp it but not legal) surly straggler for now. Nice score, you've got a very nice buddy.

He was a little sad when I told him I planned on using it hunting and not mountain biking lol. I'll probably go mountain biking with him some sohe doesn't regret selling it to me.

Sweet bike @gcr0003 I have a POS pedal power that I use until it gets too muddy. Definitely will save time getting in and out.
I bent the rim on my POS women’s Schwin pedal power bike so I’m hoping this one will do a little better

Rims are replaceable but your new bike is 100% built with a much better wheelset than the Schwinn, assuming stock on both. I'm a bit of a thirsty bike nerd if you can't tell from the replies, feel free to reach out if you've got bike questions. Do NOT use wd40 for chain lube, but you will want to have a decent chain and rear cassette cleaning setup (nothing fancy needed, some chain lube and a toothbrush is all you really need). Disc brakes might need some attention from time to time depending on how off trail you get but are not hard to deal with... Apologies if you know all this and I'm blathering on like a know it all.

Yea but it was tiny and didn’t fit me well. This one is much more my size. Nah I know nothing about bikes thanks for the tips. This one has a seat that you can extend or retract by pressing a button. So you could say it’s pretty fancy.

@thedutchtouch tell me what you think this bike would be worth used so that I can feel good or bad about my purchase
Well I'd need a bit more info, how old is it, how many miles, how worn is the chain/cassette, any dings etc... But it's probably around a grand give or take given the details? I am more of a knows how to fix bikes than a knows how to price bikes guy though

It probably isnt worth that much but not cheap either. Fairly new brake disks, seat, and chain. There is some chain wear where it slaps on the rear fork but other than that it it appears to be in good shape cosmetically. He said it was just "tuned" recently. It is a 2019 with idk how many miles. Tread looks brand new on the tires. I think he gave me a generous deal.

I'd definitely put a motor on that 1, it would make a nice e bike. BBSHD motor, battery and a controller and you'd be set. with e bikes you don't sweat, that's a big deal early season, for me anyway. then when you go with him you won't have to pedal up hill to get to your run/car and if you take the battery off and backpack it you're legal on the trails, it's just a bike.

I don't keep up with MTB prices, it's a finicky market and covid threw it all out whack. But the msrp was $1200. Street price was probably $1050-1100. Used price now maybe 6 or $700, something like that anyway. In the MTB world, depending on the model, earlier than 2016-2017 give or take, the desirability drops off quite a bit because of changes in the geometry of newer bikes VS older ones

If anyone on here has interest in building one, I could post a thread with the cost breakdown and main components for a mid drive build like mine. If you don't go fat tire but just regular MTB with big tires you can save a lot of money
I would be. My boy has a mongoose just like that. Thought it would be good to convert

What a difference in ride and quality. My old bike got me there but it was a struggle. This bike is a pleasure to ride. The big tires and front suspension help a lot too.

Good bikes, especially modern MTB's, are a completely different animal than what people are used to if they haven't kept up with the changes.

You can also go tubeless on that setup. There's more of a fiddle factor with tubeless but flats are greatly reduced, drops some rotating weight and allows lower tire pressures.
