Soft Platform?

One downside for me would be that I like to skip a ROS to spread my feet out sometimes. I might feel too restricted? I really need to just try it.
Wonder if this could be used just to eliminate two steps from your ROS (3 steps instead of 5)? Maybe still setup your ROS however you would to execute a weak side shot?

I'm still not clear on how one goes about performing a weak side shot on a ROS.

I don't remember the marine hose platform being very noisy.

I think the difference between platforms like @Weldabeast and marine hose compared to this is that they have constant contact with the bark but to move with stirrups you have to disengage a foot from the bark and then reengage it against the bark. That's where the potential noise will come from.

Several people tried this back when @justsomedude posted about it and ruled it out but, several of us ruled out climbing with two tethers back then too and many of the people in this thread are making it work. Maybe they can solve the stirrup platform problems too.

Or conversely, might have value for the guys using a platform that also add a step on either side of the tree... with this rig, maybe you could keep one foot on the platform and have the other foot in a stable position on the opposite side of the tree without the need for additional steps on your platform strap.

Maybe this is more of an auxiliary implementation than a primary platform/ROS?

I agree. I was responding to the question about how noisy Weldabeast's Dewalt soft platform is and others like it ( @ThereWillBeSpuds), which I imagine to be in the range of the marine hose variant.

To me, a regular ROS isn't very bulky or heavy, but if this could provide foot relief and comfort, then it might be something to pair with something else.

That idea peaks my interest a little.

Here is the stirrup....sew 2 separate loops of doubled up overhead lifting strap and then combine the with 2" webbing making the connection loop and wrapping around the loops...put 1 webbing on the loop to help prevent wear....1 piece of webbing and 2 loops...I added the reflective webbing so make more user friendly....I sewed the webbing back onto itself on the outside of the loops to make it more ridged and also makes a nice grab handleScreenshot_20220109-093828~2.pngScreenshot_20220109-093834~2.pngScreenshot_20220109-093750~2.png

Made a few updates. Also went out and played. Like 2TC, it is technique driven. There is no "simply walking from step to step". It's also surprisingly silent...with the right technique. By point the feet down and pushing down while contacting the tree, the winning strap "rolls" onto the bark pretty silently. You have the advantage of putting some weight into the thing on contact.

Moving around the tree is fairly simple. Push out with hands, pull feet away, reposition and reinguage feet. Stand up. Where this is simular to a ring of steps is the "back pressure" or pull you get on your main tether when positioning off center. That pull is what allows us ROS users to get what is an off side shot for the platform guys. On a ROS, and this method, all shots are on side...it's a matter of getting around the tree.

Got rid of biners, added wear plates, and most recently added an adjustment strap to the band webbing on @Red Beard suggestion
