Team 1 Thread

48 hours to go but who is counting. I am ready to get Team 1 on the board and let the season begin!!
DId we give up after the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor ... No who's with me LET"S GOOOOOOOO

We will come back I’m not worried about it. I’ve been being very picky had two 6pts I could have stuck but they were smaller so they got the walk. I’ll get a doe and a buck this year for us I’m just very picky at the beginning of season! Hope y’all opener goes great! They have already started bumping does here in sc.

Yesterday I went in around 2:00 for my fourth hunt of the season and was looking to set up on a 2.5 yr old 8 point I had gotten some pictures of. There has been a south wind all week so I was going to go up the ridge on the north end and work my way south to hopefully intercept him. He was bedded 40 yards from where I parked my car and jumped up and crossed the creek as soon as I was in his line of sight. Worked my way to the top of the ridge and way back to where he would travel if he circled back around but never did see him. It was cool to go in with an objective in mind and actually end up that close to the buck I was looking for.

My season opens on the 3rd. Im headed out this weekend to try to whack an old slick-head or 2. Maybe even a buck!!

I'll get out as soon as I can. Unfortunately, my work and kids have been dominating my life. The kid's sports are drawing to an end and work will smooth out soon. I am so ready to be in the trees.

I'm hoping I can sneak away for a few hours and run my cameras this weekend. I'd like to make sure the minerals are out, and maybe toss a bit of corn again... see what's out there. The bucks should be starting to move in around now and over the next few weeks. Hoping to have some good stuff on camera. I should be good for a buck and a doe for sure this year. Here's to getting us on the big board!

I’m primarily a bow hunter even though we have a very long gun season here I hunt with a bow though it. If I don’t kill by the time I get back from Ohio I’ll bring out the lightning rod and put two on the board to make sure I make my contribution. Besides my son eats deer like it’s going out of style. Killed 7 last year and I’m out of meat. I stopped and let a ton walk by beginning of November till the end of season bc I thought I had enough lol. Good luck to everyone that will be hunting this week I’ll be in the tree Friday-Sunday here with the boy. He will have the smoke pole and I’ll be with the bow.

Here’s my on x of yesterday afternoons hunt. You can barely catch the road and that’s right where I park to hunt the top of the ridge. The buck was bedded at the red x and moved across the creek and to the East. I was planning on heading toward the northern yellow camera icon but continued along my blue line along a possibly travel route if he moved back through.

Trying to make sure I understand your OnX...

I'm assuming the dark blue was your walk in, and the buck jumped on your walk in (the hand added "X" at the top left), correct? What time was that at? Did you have any further sign along that path? Any sign from the cams?

Haha sorry. The buck was bedded at the red x and I jumped him at 2:15 and he moved along the red line. The blue was my path that eventually led me to the blue dot I set up on. The bear is a ladder stand a nice older guy uses mainly during the rut. The red X I passed by was the first bed I ever found scouting after starting to read the hunting beast in Jan 2018. I checked it hard for 15 minutes to see if anything was in the vicinity before going further. I followed the main trail that goes across the ridge until the edge of a transition in vegetation. A doe stood up about 60 yards directly to the west of me around 5:45 and moved west. That’s all I ended up seeing.

Ahh, ok. I'm with ya now. Hopefully since he's out during the day, he'll pattern a bit for you to go after him before pressure gets too bad and he goes nocturnal. Anything you can set up on around the camera? A lot of sign that way, or just a chance encounter?

It’s one of the two entry points back up to that end of the ridge. The other was my entry Monday. I’m not entirely sure but I’m guessing theyre crossing the road and go to the farmers fields and then go back to bed on the points of the ridges. The buck in my profile picture was bedded at the red X that is just cut off of the bottom of the picture last season.

One doe stood perfectly at 30 yards for 4 seconds but I waited for a closer shot that never arrived. This was a new spot I found walking with my 1 year old in April and I envisioned it as more of a rifle spot because it’s so open but since the wind was right today I wanted to see how it looked. I’ll probably head that way for the weekend doe rifle season at the end of the month. I prepped a tree about 45 yards away with bolts when I prepped the one I was in today and every deer would have been under 20 yards go figure.

Opening morning!!!!!!

Just a couple turkeybirds so far. Easing into the season mostly try to fill a doe tag these first few weeks.

Hopefully red doesn't ban me for my new "saddle platform". This thing is the cats tits though. So much added versatility.
