Team 1 Thread

Opening morning!!!!!!

Just a couple turkeybirds so far. Easing into the season mostly try to fill a doe tag these first few weeks.

Hopefully red doesn't ban me for my new "saddle platform". This thing is the cats tits though. So much added versatility.

.5? RCH?

Which RM on your Oplux tether? #2? Don't recognize the gold.

Yep the 1/2 with a Flex saddle and the RM2. I don't endorse the safety of subbing a saddle for fall protection obviously but I have no slack in it, really is just a big saddle platform to me

Cool. Wasn't trying to poke, just curious and interested in your setup. The versatility of the .5 is intriguing. How is it sitting down? I'm 6' 215. Worried it'll feel too cramped when sitting.

Yeah I just pointing out its not really up to safety spec 100%. The seat is lower for sure, about 5 gallon bucket height. It's not uncomfortable for stretches but I wouldn't want to sit all day on it. I'm same height/weight you are.

I wasn't able to get a sit in this weekend due to my anniversary, but I still snuck away for a bit to check a couple cams. Missed this guy but about 2 hours. And right where I was planning on setting up.

Choot em!!!

I did some in season scouting yesterday and moved some cameras around. Dropping my daughter of at school on Mondays gives me a two hour time frame to hit the woods. This is the first time my schedule has allowed me to scout like this and even though I hear about scouting in season my hunting time has been so limited that it was hard to listen. Hopefully this will help me narrow down some locations for November. I got one picture of a really nice buck on August 10th but nothing else so I'm attempting to narrow in on where he might be. Next post will have some pictures and maps.

All of my post season scouting in 2020 was done with a child on my back so I found lots of 'deer sign' but not a ton of buck sign. I've seen a ton of deer (way above my past two years average) the first five sits of the season because of it but these observation type sits aren't going to be killing me any bucks. Here's the lone trail camera picture

I found this trail back in July but didn't follow it very far as it got thick quick. Left that cell camera out there for a few months but other than August 10th it was mostly does. The location of the trail camera is marked on my onX with a teal arrow.

I hunted on the edge of that ridge on 9/26 in the afternoon. I had a south wind and set up about 25 yards north east to that trail and could see about 100 yards to my north. Picked a good vantage point to be able to see all around. Marked my approximate location with a yellow X. I saw 7 does filter out about 50 yards to my north and then move northeast along the blue line. I moved some cameras around yesterday and left them at two creek crossings (orange X). The pipeline at the north was just cut in last summer and the clover has really popped up so I'm guessing they're headed that way primarily. Through all of my walking I saw zero fresh buck sign but hopefully it's just too early for that. Next couple weeks will tell. If the cameras don't show anything I'm going to explore more of the west (to the left of my teal walking trail marked) and make sure it's a spot worth hunting more. If not I'll cross it off the list.

I checked cameras mid day on Sunday and I saw small scrapes and rubs. We have a little bit to go before the majors start showing themselves but good to know where there are does there will be bucks.

Went out for some pre season scouting here (opens next Thursday). Found some good sign in a waist high cutover near a lone oak dropping acorns, but no way to hunt it except from the ground. I got ran out of the woods by mosquitos. Had the thermcell running but when I got one caught in both eyes and was temporarily blinded I had to go. Hopefully we get a cold front soon or I’m gonna need a bug net to go back in there.

Hoping to make my first official sit this Saturday. While I missed the opportunity on the earlier buck that day, I had 2 others come in on me while I was running cams. Found a big scrape line (probably 12-15 small scrapes), and then hear the 2 bucks walking towards me. I was downwind, and they were about 10' above me on a small ridge. They never knew I was there...didn't have a shot due to the cover between us, but great to know they were out in the middle of the day and be right on them.

Weather front is supposed to move in this weekend, so maybe I can get some movement and make something happen.

All packed up and ready to hit the woods this weekend. Anyone else looking to get out there? Hoping to toss some more points up on the big board for Team 1.

This past weekend was a bust, but we've got another cold front here in AR this upcoming weekend. I may try one of the spots I was planning on leaving be this season on the private land I have access to, but the other spots I'll leave be for another few weeks so I don't burn them down too early.

Ok, we need to get some more points on the board! @gameflogger is carrying us so far- we need to help him out! Anyone have plans for the week/weekend? I'm not sure how things are out your way, but it's been a little slow for me...hoping the colder temps this weekend will get some stuff moving.

I am not worried about shooting a doe. I plan on going Sunday. Starting next week I will be starting to hunt more often but between weather and commitments it has been a little hard. I have a few decent bucks that I am targeting and I am leaving my prime areas alone for another couple weeks.
