Team 10

I had a great sit last night. Snuck in tight to a bedding area I found last november. Saw a rub on my way in. Got up in a funky tree that took me 45 minutes to get set up in and stay quiet. Had 2 come out to 15 yards just 10 minutes before shooting light ended. It is pretty dark by that time in the early season but I'm definitely starting to notice my eyes aren't quite as good during that grey light here in my 40th year lol. I couldn't see any antlers so I'm pretty sure it was a couple of big does. I bet they couldn't have been bedded any more than 50-75 yards from my tree so that is always fun to know you pulled it off. Did a little dark scouting on my walk out and found a nice rub where he ripped off the top of the tree next to a scrape. I'll probably give that area a sit sometime next week.

It's going to be a brisk 99 here for our opening day. I suspect they won't move until it's time to start getting down if it's like previous years. I may go slock master style and hunt in a lake pocket or hole in the creek with mask and snorkel on.

If you do, use a blowgun. That would be awesome. Just make sure to wear the saddle under water so it will count. I was out scouting about a month ago and I was walking slowly along a little creek. All of a sudden, I walked into this little bubble of cool air. It was a good ten to fifteen degrees cooler than the 100-degree heat of the day. I hardly had time to consider the little spot before a big doe scrambled to her feet in a privet hedge and jumped the ditch just a few yards away. I think if it is hot, they will be down in shady, cool spots near water.

Ugh that sounds utterly miserable. How do you even keep one from spoiling if you kill it?
Get it quartered and on ice as soon as you can. You have some time. I killed a doe one morning around 9 when it was like 100 degrees by noon, but I wanted to hunt the afternoon. I quartered her up and put the meat in a heavy-duty garbage bag, squeezed all the air out, and tied it off tight. I submerged the bag in a shallow flowing creek, and I came back after dark and got the bag out. The meat was just fine.

Just what the admin wants to here.... lol.
Don’t worry it wasn’t anything bad. I asked a question about Covid and processing since I’ve had several family members hospitalized over the dumb virus. They bashed me and I responded by changing the title of the thread to make their responses look like they were admitting to being pedos. Everyone but the mod who bashed me found it funny. They banned me for spam lol.

Anyways.. do we have a team name or are we keeping it team 10?

We are getting pretty fired up even with the miserable forecast. Opening weekend tradition the past few years is a buddy coming over to hunt with us. The wife is on team 4, have to send her to a gar hole Going to try and get my buddy in a saddle to try it out. I was pretty low Monday after bear hunting but I found alot of deer sign in the process. Any of yall going out this weekend?

Our season doesn't start until October 1st but I'm pretty fired up. After today the temps are supposed to drop here, especially next week. I plan to get out and do a speed scout for hot sign late next week, then I have work obligations over the opening weekend. I don't like to hunt weekends anyway since I hunt mostly public. I will be out maybe that Monday or at the latest Tuesday. Of course, it will probably be 110 degrees the opening week, lol.

Was 85 here yesterday. Supposed to be 66 tomorrow. I want to take my son out after school but he's been a little under the weather this week so I'm not sure if it's gonna happen or not. I'll be out Monday morning regardless

When I managed archery shops I also poked fun of the last minute procrastinators. Today I was the guy popping in last 30min to cut some arrows

Man right on cue yesterday the weather felt like the first day of fall! Sipping my coffee this morning in 50° with a cool breeze. Getting me cranked up to get out there!
Ain't it great! I was doing a little happy dance last night to my wife just thinking about the 40s this morning lol. Taking my son out tonight for a ground sit. Any kills won't get us any points. Just hoping to have him see some deer. He's 5 and I took him on his first deer hunt opening weekend but he couldn't see the deer through the blind windows so we're trying something new. We'll see how it goes!

I've had him hanging cams and scouting with me since he could walk. That's him in my avatar pic helping me drop my last buck off at the taxidermist. He loves it and if I can kill one with him with me he'll be hooked for life. I've got a little girl that's 2 as well. I think she's going to be more about it than her brother is. Took the two of them out scouting this summer and we kicked up a good buck. She got to see it run off and then blow at us and now every time we talk about deer she talks about that buck blowing and impersonates it. Not a thing in this world I enjoy more than that. Been doing everything I can to get them obsessed with the outdoors. They don't eat anything better than when they know they've caught the fish that's on the table.
