Team 10

I've had him hanging cams and scouting with me since he could walk. That's him in my avatar pic helping me drop my last buck off at the taxidermist. He loves it and if I can kill one with him with me he'll be hooked for life. I've got a little girl that's 2 as well. I think she's going to be more about it than her brother is. Took the two of them out scouting this summer and we kicked up a good buck. She got to see it run off and then blow at us and now every time we talk about deer she talks about that buck blowing and impersonates it. Not a thing in this world I enjoy more than that. Been doing everything I can to get them obsessed with the outdoors. They don't eat anything better than when they know they've caught the fish that's on the table.

Pure magic right there!

Been buying stuff for my conversion from 1 sticking to NO sticking since Jan! Finished off putting my ropes together today. Almost put my LW hand climber up on the classifieds, but I can't seem to let it go!

Well I am soooo jealous of yalls temps! Today was 93 with a feels like of 104! Spent the day watching weather maps and directing my staff to start getting our ducks in a row and ready to implement our plans on Monday if the future hurricane in the Caribbean decides to come our way early next week. Can't wait to retire in another decade to somewhere in the midwest!

35 here this morning. You are jealous now, but come mid January WHEN I've still got 3-4 more months of snow instore, you'll be happy NOT to be here!

Sat in a pinch point tonight for about 2 hours before dark. Nothing came through but I pulled a sd card from a camera I set out in front of this stand 2 weeks ago. I was pleasantly surprised to find out when I got home that I had at least six different bucks on camera. 2 are shooter 8 pointers and 1 is my #1 target buck I call Black Velvet. It's my first video of him this fall. Asked myself today if I thought he was still alive? The video isn't great but he seems to be a main frame 8 or maybe 9 pointer this year but he has at least 2 small stickers off the right side and 2 5 to 6 inch stickers off the left side. Should score in the 150's gross would be my best guess. Sure wouldn't mind finding out for sure. Thinkin about maybe sitting there again in the morning now.

Got out last night after work with my boy. We were 5 mins too late. Right spot right wind just weren’t able to get there soon enough. We were almost down into the bottom and I caught movement to our right. Of course we were hung out to dry with nowhere to hide. I got him to squat down next to me and we watched somewhere close to 10 does and fawns walk by us at 25. It’s a high stem count area and I didn’t have many shots to start with and there was just no way to get drawn without being busted. Once they passed through we continued through the bottom and of course before we can get to where we need to setup he swears he needs a sweatshirt. Take off pack, get out crap, get out sweatshirt, repack, get on sweatshirt, pack back on, cross stream, look up and dang it there’s more deer coming. Little better hiding spot but still lots of crap in the way. He did amazing as we had one doe stomping at us for close to 10 mins and he didn’t budge. She ended up calming down and walking away. Almost has a little buck make it to a clearing but a doe spooked just before he did. He didn’t know what was up but followed her out. Finally got setup and we had a little 6 point work behind us at 45 yards. Mission accomplished that he got to see some deer and a whole bunch but man 5 mins earlier and we were killing one. Brutal for the old man lol

Sounds like a adventure of a lifetime for you and your boy...

Got out to the tree in my backyard today shooting bow from the saddle for about an hour. Wasn't the first practice I've had actually shooting from the saddle, but it was the longest. Glad I finally trimmed up a bunch of branches this summer! During the season even if I can't get out hunting I still hope to practice through the week and get increasingly proficient and comfortable.

I sat that pinch point again tonight as the wind was perfect for that spot. The doe in the 1st pic was just standing there feeding when I completed my climb. She was at 35 yards and I got all set up in the tree without spooking her. Saw 2 skippers (fawns) in the field behind me then about a half hour before dark I saw movement out in front of me about 60 yards out. It was a buck alright but not the big one I’m after. Turns out it’s the bigger of the 2 eight pointers I’ve got on camera there. He’s a nice 3 & 1/2 year old with an eighteen inch spread and nice g2s and g3s but his brows are only about an inch long. I drew on him and had the pin on his vitals but let down and let him go cause I was thinking the whole time that if I squeezed the trigger on him then sure as sh*t the big boy would be with him and spook. The bucks here are still traveling in loose knit bachelor groups. Of course Mr Big didn’t show.

Just got an arrow in a nice 8. Shot was forward. Hit front shoulder. He’s either dead with a heart shot or I need to find him bedded. Trying to wait 20 more mins to get down. Been 40 so far

Congrats man! That's a tough call whether or not to follow up in these instances. Good luck.

Take your time. You have all day to recover him. I myself would give him at least a couple of hours weather permitting.
