Team 11 Thread

Yeah, hopefully everyone will let him walk...he will be a good one next year and maybe keep his same daytime pattern for you.
I hope so. I bumped him at 11:40 today. I thought I heard a squirrel run off but when I got there I could smell a rank buck. Checked the cam and he was in there as I was coming in.

What kind of private land is this? Seems like fairly strict rules compared to what I’ve heard of?
Not private. its a managed hunt on public land. only permit holders can hunt and its all extremely regulated. have to do qualification shoots every year prior to hunting it. they shut down the park for the day and we go in and shoot em up. Deer density in some spots is over 200 per square mile. naturally they want the does dead first.

I lost all but one small parcel of private (15ac) and its looking bad for that spot next yr too.

edit... Deer densities in some areas are 448/sq. mi. (FLIR count)
Thats nuts haha. Ive been trying to get in for years. They finally accepted me. only 75 archery hunters total. Some big deer in those spots. i shed hunt them every winter.

11 different bucks under my stand yesterday and i cant shoot any! 5 of them were shooters too. still needed a doe first. What are the chances...
i had a shot at one really nice 8 that was wounded but didnt get the "ok" to shoot til it was too late. He hobbled off with a broken leg licking a hole in his brisket. i feel like i wasted my rut in this stupid program holding out for a doe. I think im cancelling on my last 2 hunts. I can do better on public.

Awful quite around here fellas. Anyone still hunting other than @PEEJAY?

I don’t have another tag until the opening weekend of rifle (weekend after Thanksgiving) and that will be my last hunt of the year before knee surgery shuts me down for a while. Hopefully, I can upgrade my buck by a point or two but our team need some does to hit the ground. :)

So wild to see everybody killing rutting bucks and many of their seasons ending soon. I’ve enjoyed reading everyone’s hunting stories. I’m finishing laying floor this week in the house and then it’s gonna be a lot of hunting from thanksgiving to February 10th. I’m hoping to have a my two deer down before the last day of season like last year. Thanksgiving weekend should be rutting in parts of the state, I may try to make a camping trip over there and bring the 30-30. I’m hoping to be good for at least 10 more points but not sure that’ll do us much good in the overall score.

Who all here still has a doe left to contribute or no deer killed so far like me? I’m curious what potential for points we have left. I enjoy a healthy competition!

I’m still hitting it pretty hard. Going 3-4 times a week. No blood lust in my eyes right now. Truly enjoying watching the bucks chase and me pinning down a doe group and moving on. Cant shoot a buck on public right now. 1 buck state. Had 5 inside 30 tues. Only 1 last night.

I have a state park reduction hunt monday and those are usually productive. Draw hunt on military base sat/sun. My buddy has been asking me to go on his private, but no interest yet. More of a harvest than a hunt. Still have mz tag on public.

Have a whitetail, pronghorn and some mulie in freezer. Not gonna starve this winter.

Ill put does on the ground so pencil in 5 more points from me. Dont count on upgrading buck.

Good luck and be safe.

Hoping my luck turns around soon. I can't seem to figure out the bucks this year. I've got them out during the day at all my stand locations on cam all week, and I finally get up there, and its a ghost town. Been that way for 3 weeks now. Been quiet walking in, playing the wind, but I've gotta be slipping up somewhere.

Anyway, rifle opens today, so maybe I'll get a chance before they all go nocturnal.

Georgia woods update. Mostly young bucks are chasing every doe off the acorns and out of bow range. I have been hunting hard for the last 2 weeks. I have hung from my saddle on 5 sunrise to sunset days and only coming out of the woods to clean deer or to grab lunch with my hunting buddies at the camp. Have to admit even the most comfortable saddle can start getting uncomfortable at this rate. Cold bag showers and all food heated up over a fire or just ate cold depending on how exhausted I was at the end of the day. What an awesome time I have had so for.
I have gotten 7 doe and passed on a really good 4 1/2 year old 8 point.... that is going to be great if he makes it till next season, hopefully he doesn't tease me again. Also passed on a shooter 10 point that had completely broke off his G-2, just couldn't do it knowing how good he will look as a 10 pointer next year.
Came home yesterday to see the wife and granddaughter plus desperately needed to wash clothes, restock my food and cut up the 7 doe for the freezer. Just the shoulders left and will be headed back to the woods soon!!!
Hopefully, I can connect on 3 more doe and add
a buck to the Team score.
Good luck everyone!!!!

Had some small bucks under my stand yesterday on public...watched the dirty dirty go down. Couldn't ruin the moment. He was a young 6 anyway. I have some good opportunities coming up on public and a nice little chunk of private open to me after the 20th. Most of the big bucks I've seen are locked down right now and would have to hunt from the ground to get to them. Public around me is small and it's rude to stalk deer when there's so many hunters spread throughout the woods. That will change as it gets colder and less people try during the weekdays.Screenshot_20231111-085211_Messages.jpg

Sat yesterday morning. Saw 5 bucks and at least Four does. Mostly really young does but one nice eight that I passed on because I was hunting near my sons stand. Just really wanted him to have an opportunity to kill something nice. He sat yesterday evening and never saw him. I should be good for five more points but who knows how things will go in the next few weeks. Hopefully I’ll upgrade my buck. At least all those young bucks were exciting yesterday morning. Harassing does non stop. Grunting and snort wheezing. One of the young bucks had enough depth to his front forks to make you think something nice was coming in over and over as he’d run does off the plot then come sneaking back in.

Got us a few more points. Thought for sure it was a spiker but it had 3 small points on one side. I was so disappointed. Thought i had us a team photo opportunity!

So, the deer on your hitch rack isn't really a doe???

It's been pretty quiet lately, after a couple target bucks, but I've not had much even on camera over the last few weeks. Come to find out there's been someone else hunting the property (with permission), but he's been out there almost every day just walking around, so he's pushed a lot away. Finally had a couple walk in last week , and passed on a couple smaller bucks and does last week. I've had a couple bigger ones popping back up over the last couple days in other areas, so I'm hoping for a good weeknd.
