TEAM 3 - BARK BUSTERS

I went out last night to hunt the new spot. Tried Cranford ezy steps for the first time. I think I scared just about any deer in the neighborhood getting up in the tree. Didn't see anything. I'll be back out Friday - and I'm going to my best spot.

Fingers crossed.

The views last night made the climb worth it:

Night time photo but continuously surprised at the caliber of some of the deer in this area since I’ve typically only seen scrub bucks in the woods as well as on camera. I’m hoping to do some preseason scouting and moving around of cameras today or tomorrow to get some additional intel. Season opens in a week for this area. DE44E6BC-A438-4AF7-8600-777FFC7F4C87.png

Is that velvet hanging off of his rack?

All - we had some cold weather here in Illinois today. I hunted my best spot. I saw a total of 12 deer, mostly small bucks and does. I could have taken one of the small bucks and one of the does, the rest of the deer got my wind.

There was one good 8 pt, maybe 115-120 inches that I was going to shoot but he got my wind and slowly left the spot.

I hope for better luck tomorrow after I fulfill my husband/dad duties(we are going to a pumpkin patch).

Good luck to everyone else!

Did 3.5 miles scouting yesterday looking for active feed trees. It seems like the oaks aren’t dropping real well this year. I did find one white oak that had rubs going to it and a good amount of acorns on the ground as well as red oak, pin oak, water oak, and a bunch of overcup oaks dropping. Do they like these overcup oaks much? I did bunch about 10 deer, 2 and 3 at a time.

One more week for season to open here. Good luck to the hunters this weekend, someone has to draw first blood! 3972CA85-A454-45E3-9DFA-69C560761B30.jpeg26366AEA-4AFF-4456-A1C0-697D55E76A6D.jpeg9F074A7A-B24D-4807-81DF-0110AD7A6238.jpeg04B5FB70-C48F-4053-8670-C47C672730F4.jpeg3F3D0745-A263-4A59-9799-30931FD9816A.jpeg

I have heard people say they do, but I haven’t found an overcup yet that had much deer sign under it as long as there were some other oaks dropping nearby.

Going to get out tonight and hunt a new place. I’ve passed up a few scrubs and some does since the opener, that may not be the case tonight.

Unfortunately, I have grown very fond of my new purchase, the Novix Helo. That paired with my beast sticks, not sure I can get a better set up, especially shooting the stick bow.

Arkie why don’t you come down and join me and some buddies for deer camp next weekend. You ain’t that far

Went out yesterday morning to my favorite SRT tree….i hunted it last Saturday afternoon, and noticed a drag coming out of the hollow below with 40 yds, and onto my access trail. As expected, saw nothing, but figured a crisp morning a week later, the deer would come back in. …now I’m regretting letting the doe and fawn walk 3 weekends ago! Slow start for me this season with 5 sits, one of them good, 3 sits seeing no deer. SRT stuff is set aside, will be 2TC’ing on whatever fresh sign i find in the WMA tonight. Sundays in NJ WMA can be more about going where others don’t. The county public can’t be hunted on sundays. I put out trail cams in August to soak all year, and have the cell cam sitting at home in the garage…was going to try and not rely on them this year…but think i might need to put an end to that experiment, as the freezer is down to 4 packs of ground venison….

I was able to get one down last night.
Unfortunately it was not out of my saddle
Had a buddy who has a greenhouse call and needed help with reduction on his mum patch.
So I just grabbed the bow and took off set up on the edge in jeans and a hoody .
Got a good shot and only ran 35 yards.

Had a spiker at five yards then the yotes came in. The shooters on a pattern haven’t shown up again. Apples are starting to decline and pressure is increasing. But I’ve been out. Was using the Pursuit platform. So far I like it. It does tend to pull off the tree on the top slightly when my full weight is on it transitioning from LB to tether but it didn’t budge once weight offset on tether. It was nothing alarming just not used to that. This was a morning sit on public overlooking a scrape I had a camera on. Unfortunately I busted deer out on my walk in but they were right by the scrape. They didn’t bust out too bad I circled into my setup downwind of it but they did hustle out but not blowing.
