Team 3 Thread

Well guys, I missed this morning, not once but twice on the same buck. Shot just under him at 30 yds both times. He was a 2.5yo 8. After the first shot right in my wheelhouse he scampered off a bit and stood trying to figure out what happened. When he started walking again he had changed direction and walked at my 6 o'clock for a repeat of the first shot. Dooooh!

Haha! Sorry. It's always easier to laugh when somebody else misses for a change. We could have used the points though.

It happens, I missed a couple does last year and you just forget some of the little things sometimes. There’s always other deer to find.

I’ll be out tomorrow morning but not really planning on shooting anything unless it’s bigger than any deer I’ve got so far. So fingers crossed on that. Just gonna wing it and go sit what looked like a rut funnel I found earlier in the year.

My morning sit was short lived, the forecast last night was storms at 830-9 with a wind switch. Usually the deer are back to bedding before 8. So the storm was moving early & the wind switched right as my first 3 does came through, they blew & cleared the river bottom. I used the now sideways rain to make a stealthy exit & live to fight another day…… this blows out before dark. Might make an evening sit work. If not tomorrow is Friendsgiving & im frying 2 turkeys with my propane infrared fryer. They take about 3 hours . Trying to time it so I can hunt until 8 or out one in & hunt for 3 hours & then come in start the other bird & help out…… we’ll see

Congrats! Do you use that decoy on your bow on public land? I’d be fearful for my life!

Haha! Yeah, they come with some hunter orange ribbon that goes across each ear and across the neck but I took it off. No fear!

All kidding aside, I'm pretty particular about where I use it. I really don't have any safety concerns. I also carry it in my platow pack between spots, it folds up to about an 8" circle, maybe an inch thick. If I've got it attached to the stake and move locations I carry it in a way the deer head isn't visible. I doubt I will ever use it during a firearm season.

Saw 7 deer last night, nothing in range. Tried a stalk on a doe but it was just too dry and crunchy. She was browsing away from me and I got as close as 60yds, but then she made a left turn up a ridge and I was out of the game. Slept in this morning, heading out tonight and then taking my brother in law out all day tomorrow in hopes of getting him on his first deer.

Missed opening day of rifle season because of a funeral. Drove back to the middle of Minnesota to hunt the family land and got out the evening of the second day didn’t see anything. Shot a fork at 830 the second day. No points for the saddle contest since my family rifle hunts off tripods. Wanted this hunt to be as short as possible to spend time with family and get back home. Wanted the freezer meat and wanted to avoid a doe, my bother shot the biggest deer in the area opening day. Back to Wisconsin forest public land with a bow next week.

I did try out my IWOM, that was pretty amazing and I can’t see rifle hunting from platform stand without it.

Congrats! I've had my eye on an IWOM, not ready to pull the trigger but will definitely own one someday. Good luck in Wisconsin next week!

Congrats! That iwom is the ticket man! I like it much better than my previous HBS

Still in tree this morning. Had a spike pass through right at light. Then the doe I wanted about 15 minutes later. She had a mature buck close on her. She never gave me that shot I wanted. Buck was a tank of a body. Nice solid thick four on one side with a stubby left, nice and wide with a blown up neck! She was a the base of my tree with him looking my way, couldn't draw. She swung back around but never in the clear. Nice morning!

Got in the tree on my personal property about 4 pm. The only thing I’ve seen so far is two pre teen girls and their dog roaming around. Sadly they walked right down one of the main trails the deer use. They got to within 60 yds of me then turned around, and left. What do you do? My luck has been **** lately.

Oh boy, life I guess. I always tell myself "at least I'm in a tree" thankful for good health.

I'd say hunt it out. Those girls might do that fairly often and the deer could be used to it and not think of them as a threat.

Or maybe they do and you can adjust your stand location based off of how the deer are skirting them.
