Team 5 Thread

I'm taking today off. I've been pushing a little too hard. I woke up around midnight with bad leg cramps from overdoing it and maybe a little dehydration. All I ate yesterday was a bowl of oatmeal and a bottle of water until I got back to the house around 7:30. I need to get some multivitamins also.

I may get out tomorrow morning and just do a big scout. I'm not sure. I have work tomorrow evening and Saturday over near one of my areas so I may take that opportunity to go over there and scout since I have to be there anyway.

I feel like I need to shake it up. Try something off the wall for me like go hunt a big ridge top or throw a dart in the map and go hunt that spot.

I'll probably definitely be out Sunday. Maybe to hunt, maybe to just cover a bunch of ground and find some new opportunities.

My folks just cancelled thanksgiving plans, so looks like I've got some more time in the woods lined up at the end of next month. Hoping to get out a few times between now and then too, nothing this weekend/next week but may take another random day or two off in November as well

Have you ever seen any of Bobby Worthington’s podcasts about funnels? I think it would/could work in the hill country.

I think so but I can go back and refresh my memory. Any that really stood out to you or are they all good?

No dice last night.

Watched a spike buck eat acorns for about 2 hours. Had three does come out. I was going to shoot the biggest but they left the area but they got in range because a four point buck came in and was harassing them.

Going to try Saturday morning.

This is part 1. Part 2 is in the description I think. He’s got some more stuff with Southern Outdoors podcast that, but I haven’t listened to all of it. I’m going to catch up on my 5 hr ride home tomorrow.

Here is a video where is actually in the field explaining it. It’s shorter, and not as in depth, but it gets the concept across.

I'm listening to the first one now...good stuff.

I got out this evening but A and B spots were full of trucks. Punted and tried somewhere new. Found a bench above a bottom with some cover on the downhill edge that held a little sign. Set up and saw 3 does down in the bottom. Then a buck about 60 yards away. Ok, in the game. Then half hour left, had a stocky 2.5 y/o come in heading right toward me. He hung up at 25 yards behind some trees. He waited at least 5 minutes and finally came around hard quartering to me. He froze up again and eventually locked up on me. Busted. Beautiful night and the deer are on the move. Hopefully can get out tomorrow somewhere

Good luck!

No luck for the morning on that farm, he said he would think it over. So, not a no! He is a farmer that hates deer, he has another piece of property that he leased out, not sure if he was hoping I would offer something? Time will tell?
