My great good Lord and Creator! I need to
move out there or at least try to hunt a few times in that state!!! Now I understand they’re no longer otc either though correct?

I went out this morning on public again. I was hunting the same oak flat which is located up a ridge from some cut corn and crap fields. I didn't see any deer but I found 5 or 6 runs and a scrape about 100 yards north on the edge of the ridge. My plan right now is to hunt over the scrape some evening when I get a chance.

I just got back home, unpacked, and then repacked. I’ll be out the door by 5:30 am, and at the farm around lunch time. I’ve got a pinch point I want to scout tomorrow. It looks like a big one will have to cruise through at some point. I would think.

Safe travels shoot a hammer!!!

Had a 7pt come out again last night & a solid 8 pt chasing a doe. He stood on a trail through the holly for almost 20 minutes at 36 yds with out moving. I’m 50 yds into a point of timber that’s in a bottom. A hair over 16 miles of scouting this place & really low deer density. All the sign is in the bottoms & more of it if the creeks have water & aren’t dry. Btw I’m now setup 16yds off that trail……

Good luck! I'm seeing the same thing with the drought conditions. They want to be low, near water right now.

The 1st night of scouting was kind of productive. I found a good rub line, and fresh sign. I can’t hunt it until Thursday however. We have hard South winds and warm temps until then. Wednesday the rain comes in along with North winds, and a decent front. We are hunting, but not hitting the “good” spots until then. I’ll keep yall updated.

Walked into public tonight. Had a spike walk by at 10 yards, would have been an easy strong side shot. If that was any other thing that a spike I would of let one lose. Had another deer come in at dark, I could barely see it but I'm pretty sure it was a doe.

Probably an am sit tomorrow before we get some warm weather up here for a couple days.

Have some decent photos coming in from southern ohio, leaving Saturday for a week down there.

I went out yesterday morning. I tried to slip into a spot I know deer (plural?) bed. It is the backside of a very steep hillside 3/4 mile back through some gnarly country. A comedy of errors had me running late and I did not get there in time to ease into that area in the dark.

I did find a very hot white oak dropping tons of acorns. I set it from about 8 to noon with no volunteers. I may go back and hunt it again one evening very soon. I also checked a couple of spots near there for buck activity. So far, no scrapes have opened that I have seen. One spot I checked, a military crest on a hillside was also covered with acorns, so that might be a good spot to recheck. There were a few piles of poop there, but they looked small and a couple of days old.

I ended up easing into that valley below the steep hillside and a big deer went bounding off one of the finger ridges, confirming that they are indeed bedding in there. I've bumped them in there as late as the last day of season, so it is a little pocket of ground that they feel safe in all season. I may wait and not burn that spot and sit it a couple of days during the rut. I don't know, I feel like piling up some deer this season, lol. Man, I really wish we had higher deer density!

I went out last night. I saw 5 deer total - nothing within range.

I had a decent 8 pt. come in, probably the biggest buck I've seen on the hoof in two years at this spot. He never presented a shot.

I'll be back at it Friday.

It’s pouring, temps have gone from71 at daylight to 50. Wind has switched from S to NW. I’m heading out as soon as this thunderstorm blows through. The big boys should be on their feet this evening.
