Team 5!

Yes, the Michigan combo license allows for two kill tags to be used throughout the deer seasons (bow, rifle and muzzleloader). They can be used for does or (and this is specific to my part of the state) one buck with more than 4 pts on a side and one buck with more than 3 pts on a side. These are my "permission slips" to be in the woods so once they're gone I'm done hunting. For that reason I'm pretty particular early on.

I did apply for a receive a "bonus" doe tag for my local hunting zone but I typically save that for late bow season to assure I can hunt through December. Honestly, I've probably only killed two or three does out of the 80 or so deer I've killed in my lifetime. Old habits die hard.:tearsofjoy:

Your welcome to come down here & thin the herd. Unlimited does & 2 bucks, there are also some hints that don’t count towards the season bag limit

Got another set of oaks I see the deer have been hitting. I had a cancellation Friday so I’m hoping to get a morning and evening hunt in then. For now I’m hoping to glass this field bottom the last hour to see if this buck shows up in the corner again before dark. How’s everyone else doing?

I’m laying low, just got back from a trip. Knocking down my honey do list & waiting for things to heat up here. I might get out an afternoon or 2 next week. Need to make sure the ML is sighted in for my Sika trip on the 21st......

Nice! Best of luck!

Heading back to camp on Thursday night. I've got another 4 day weekend this week due to a corporate holiday on Monday. Unfortunately the weather will be warmer this weekend but is predicted to be dry, at least as of now.

A deer can only stand under 25 yards broadside chewing on corn so long before he has to die! Lefty has taken a Tooth of the Arrow through both lungs. He broke off that funky point already, but he is a big bodied deer for around here. There was no waiting until December.
7 points - 5 on the Left - 2 on the right.

Well guys, back home from my second 4 day weekend and I've been hitting it hard. No luck yet. In fact I was shut out for the whole weekend. I never saw a deer from the tree. The bad part is that I thought I had awesome setups every sit this weekend. You know how sometimes you get set up in a tree and know its just not right. Kind of like "darn, the wind just isn't quite right" or "shucks I came in the wrong direction". Not once did that happen this weekend . . . I would have said every setup was gold. Deer sign is strong, just not while I was there. Closest I came was I had a deer walk up on me and bust me while I was putting my stick on the tree Sunday morning. No idea what it was because it was still dark, but it came out right where I was setting up for. It was pretty bright at night all weekend and pretty warm for northern Michigan so maybe they were just hanging during the daylight hours.

The best part is, in the past a weekend like this would have had me all depressed and pissed off. This weekend was all good. The colors are magnificent. I actually was still looking forward to the sits and scouting and enjoying the process. I think I have saddle hunting to thank for that. It really has rejuvenated my grumpy old man spirit changed my outlook on hunting.

I will say though next weekend I'm taking my other bow. . . I think @kyler1945 sold me a jinxed Elite E32 this summer! :tearsofjoy: :tearsofjoy:

Yeah I went out twice this weekend and didn’t see anything in spots I always at least see deer in a field. It was super hot and super clear skies. I know it will happen when the crops are all finally in and the first good freeze comes around.

That's what y'all get for opening the registration for the contest after I left for colorado, and closing it before I got back! I have no motivation to hunt now, may just sit out the season.....

Haha, that's a bummer, sounds like you at least enjoyed the woods...And don't listen to him guys, he told me the bow is a backup!

Reminds me of a great quote from Bull Durham:

“Well, Nuke’s scared because his eyelids are jammed and his old man’s here. We need a live roo– is it a live rooster? We need a live rooster to take the curse off Jose’s glove. And nobody seems to know what to get Millie or Jimmy for their wedding present. Is that about right? … We’re dealing with a lot of sh–.” –Crash Davis
