Just in time for my rutcation! Thanks @kyler1945! To be fair I did have an 8 point I'd have taken close within about 50yds of me in the pouring rain last Friday morning. That's a bit outside my comfortable range in good conditions though let alone the nastiness I sat in last weekend.@boyne bowhunter , I have decided to lift your curse. All you need to do is hold the bow above your head with both hand, turn in a circle counterclockwise 7 times. After that, it’s on you!
Sweet! Congratulations. I second the others sentiments on butchering. You'll feel like it's a lot of work on teh first one but they get so much easier once you get a system down. Living here in the north where it's generally cold during season makes it so much easier. I generally hang them in the back garage and skin them right away. With the windows open it stays cold enough I can take my time finishing them up.Well boys. Got my first archery buck this morning. He isn’t a giant but he checks a lot of “first” boxes.
1. First archery buck
2. First saddle kill
3. First hunt/sit with new Hoyt RX-4
4. First hunt/sit with Grizzlystik 770 grain arrows
5. First time filming a kill; camcorder filming deer and GoPro filming me
6. Going to be the first time butchering a deer myself
Told myself I was waiting for a big one and he is good size just not in antlers. Going to be so much meat on this one.
So how does the point thing work on the contest thread? He is an 8 pointer.
Wait @kyler1945 . . . is that counterclockwise as I'm looking up at the bow or counterclockwise with respect to the ground? I don't want to get this wrong!@boyne bowhunter , I have decided to lift your curse. All you need to do is hold the bow above your head with both hand, turn in a circle counterclockwise 7 times. Edit: This is invariably an issue with aerospace sensor specifications and despite how carefully its defined it's always wrong . . .
Now don't be doing that . . . North wind in northern Michigan in Late Oct./Nov. means lake effect rain or snow. That may be worse than the curse . . . .at least based on last weekend's weather. This is your curse now not mine. I read the directions when I cast it. I've moved on to figuring out how to make the wind blow out the north permanently now!
Pulling for you, have fun & don’t settle! Stay safe & sharp!Well guys camp is set up and my rutcation has begun. I'm off work until the 17th of November and I plan on spending it all hunting. The deer sign around camp has definitely picked up from last weekend. Tons of heavy track in the 2 track driving in. I got here right at prime time tonight and driving in there was a super heavy racked 3.5 year old walking with a doe just about a half mile down the road. If that doesn't get your juices pumping while driving into camp you're playing the wrong game. I'm gonna shift things up a bit tomorrow so we'll see how it goes. I'll try and keep you posted but I am an old guy and have never mastered typing on the phone.
What an excellent time to be in the woods. Thanks for the update keep us posted. Stay safe, stay warm and shoot straight.Well guys camp is set up and my rutcation has begun. The action is really picking up here in southern Michigan, I had a small 4 pt and 6 pt chasing today. My son had a nice 11pt bedded down with a doe a couple days ago.
I leave for southern Ohio on the 7th, here is the buck we have been getting on camera.
I will second that! A 10pt, my biggest buck to date and my first saddle kill! We’re about to make a big jump on the board boys!
