Team 7 Thread

My wife got one today. She has been hunting at the house all week. Seen deer just not “the” deer. I went to a spot this morning, saw several deer including this buck. I tried calling it in but it wanted nothing to do with me. We went back tonight came up with a ground plan and she smacked it.

WI 10 day gun season started this weekend. Ended up driving 11 hours on Saturday to bring my daughter home from Iowa State for thanksgiving. Gotta be a dad first.

Did a sit in a box blind on private with my 82 year old father yesterday. Was good to have a hunt with him as it had been many years since our last hunt together. Lot’s of reminiscing of past hunts and catching up. We saw 1 doe at 1:40 that flew through so fast, he didn’t even have time to pick up the shotgun. Winds kicked up to over 30mph in the afternoon and temp dropped into the 30’s so I was thankful to be in a box with a heater instead of hanging from a tree.

My brother was in a 10’ tall box on relatives land and the box actually blew over in the wind while he was in it. He is lucky he came out of it with just bruised ribs and a scrape on his head. Be safe out there fellas and always make sure someone else knows where you are set up.

That's a great buck!

I haven't been on in a while. I was busy hunting the rut and then our 10-day rifle season. So far, the bucks have eluded me, but I did shoot two antlerless deer opening day of rifle season. I guess 10 points is better than no points, and I have meat in the freezer. My buddy who was hunting with me shot a decent 9 pointer.

I'm a bit burnt out and may skip the muzzleloader season which starts in about an hour. Later in December we have a couple of antlerless-only hunts. I'm not sure when I'll get back out, I need a rest.

I smoked 2 does on Thanksgiving morning with 1 shot from my 7mm Mag but wasn't in my saddle so no points there. Still 2 weeks of archery left so might still put some points on the board.

I hear you there. Lots of hunting and processing and driving for me this month. Between me, my dad and brother-in-law and his boy we shot 6 deer which for us is a lot and we process them all ourselves. I’m also taking the ML season off but I got a couple buddies that want some venison and we could use the points so I’ll be back out later for some does.

Doing a little urban’ish hunting this evening. Anyone else out?

I’ll be back in the woods in one week with the shotgun, then Saturdays with the muzzleloader until our winter bow comes in January 1st. I’ve been scouting hard for the late season.

Our season ends 1/15. I am in kill mode, I won't pass a thing. It turns our our dog has a knack for tracking deer. He tracked 2 over the thanksgiving weekend during the 2nd youth season. Found both deer unfortunately one of those was still alive. I want to give buddy as many chances as I can to find deer.

Have at it and have fun!

I usually shoot a few more does than I have this year. Some of our areas have been hit pretty bad by EHD including the one where I do my management hunting so I've been taking it easy on them this year. Since I have a gun tags for the next month I'm a bit more motivated to shoot something, maybe even a doe in an area that wasn't hit. I haven't shot a deer with a gun since 2012 and lately I'm been a bit nostalgic about a lot of things and muzzeloader hunting in my youth is one of them. I took out my possibles bag that my grandfather made me out of the hide of the first doe my dad shot while I was sitting in a tree with him. Its cool cause you can see the bullet hole in the fraying on the lid of the bag. It's pretty cool and been on every muzzeloader hunt I've ever made. It's probably pushing 30 years old at this point.

Awesome, take the muzzleloader out and shoot something with it.

I kinda quit checking in also, but I spent probably close to 200 hours in the saddle during November. Did shoot two does, one with a bow and one in rifle, so 10 on the board. Had several encounters with shooter bucks, but no shots yet. I am down to Friday and Saturday the last two days of our rifle season, might sneak out for another half day Wednesday or Thursday. We have a late bow/flintlock season I've never killed a buck, in but I suppose if I don't get one this weekend I'll give that a couple Satrudays. It ain't over until the sun sets on the last day!
