Team #7

Well that was uncalled for... Just about had to explain to my wife why I was dancing a jig in the kitchen lol. Seems like a good spot. I'll be out with my daughter later this afternoon. Good luck yinzer

Haha it was cruel I'm sorry. Nice to reminisce a successful hunt though. As I sit here going on 15 tree hours since seeing a deer. Gotta love the big woods!

Good luck! Thats great taking the daughter out.

Got me to Elk lol

Everything was going to plan this morning. Until I went to grab my bow. Realized I left my release on the table at home 30 miles away... D'oh!!! Guess I'll try again when this offline map downloads lol

Good luck! My day is bound to go better

I'm my own worst enemy out there. Regroup and restock. Headed back in soon. Have a morning plan for once lol. If I can remember the essentials, like my release

I was gonna leave about 10:30 and head out for the day when my wife got off work. One my cousins show his first deer with a bow at 9, so I told him to stay put and I'd come help. Said shot was low so we looked at the blood and decided to wait a bit. Started tracking about 10:30 and after 100 yards of decent, slightly gritty blood we lost it. I called my neighbor who has a blood dog and it took a bit, but we finally got it straightened out and found it still alive bout 300 yards away, dog run it 300ish before getting it stopped. Ended up going another 200 before it was over, but ended with a nice buck, that was hit through bottom of lungs/liver. I couldn't believe it was alive and went like it did.

This happened....

...last time I hunted this tree. LOL

Nothing but a beautiful sunrise and some chippers so far. Chipper rut must be on, they're going nuts.

Gonna sit here all day I guess. It was a commitment to get back here. I have several scrapes in range. Wind is good. It makes too much sense not to. But gosh are all days boring.
You SOB!

Got a doe last night. No points as I was walking out, hadn't seen anything to set up on. I did find really interesting sign, I think it's better for morning. I reached out privately to one of the team for some guidance.

After my release debacle Saturday I went in to check that spot out anyway. Moved at the wrong time and bumped something decent, it was headed to the spot I came to check. Bummer and cool, didn't get a good look. Scouted my way out where the deer had been, and that was the morning plan.

Time change got me, so I was running late. Decided not to climb but was going to tether in by a small blowdown and see what happened. Pretty sure it was an 8 pt, nice and symmetrical good width and height on his rack but I couldn't see brow tines, just the 6. He came in fast and loud and I hadn't even got situated. Bummer! He was a little far away anyway, no shot but felt good to see a nice l one and I can try to hunt him now

@Horn did you ever shoot your bow to see if it was you or the bow?

Didn't get out with my daughter this weekend, she decided she didn't want to go. Never got any real reason for why out of her, which has me second guessing if I've bothered her on hunting for good some how or if she's just being a 9 year old and changing her mind a lot.

On the bright side I'm off for the next five days with rifle season starting Saturday and a cool front coming through tomorrow night. Gonna get the kids on the bus in the morning and scout my way in to an area that has had lots of cruising bucks over the years. High temp is 82° tomorrow with 59° forecast for Thursday. Wish those temps were 25° lower but that's still a big shift, should create some good movement.

Yep looking forward to this front other than the rain that is forecasted. We need the rain but I hate hunting in it with a bow.

I did go shoot at the range last night, and I can't tell you for certain if it's me or if the sight did get bumped but I was grouping good about 4.5 inches right. I moved it and put some reps in so I should be back on track. I'm happy with my results Sunday but... you know when you're missing if you know what I mean. Thanks for asking!

Went on a scouting/camera moving mission tonight. Promising for scouting, got the camera but didn't put it out yet. I thought it was too risky by the time I would have been back in the area I want to set it again.

Totally unrelated but I managed to lose my string stop/silencer thing completely somehow. No idea how long that's been gone but... eh, uh. Oh well I guess

Good thing you got that straightened out. That's odd about the string stop, is it the kind that slip over the back of the cable guard guide rod?

It's a 3/8 carbon tube with the rubber deal on the end that right out of the riser. Not sure how that would have worked it's way out even once the set screw came loose but it did. Oops

Headed down to the river tonight to see if I can find a buck down there that wants to cooperate. Decided to leave the mountain spot to the gun hunters since it will be opening weekend and I'm dont think I want to deal with all that. Hopefully this front will get them on their feet again. Should be good mid to late morning movement with the front and the overhead moon. Y'all aim small and let their air out.

Saw no deer at all yesterday, and only the tail end of one crossing a gap at 75 yards. It didn't respond to any calls I threw after it. Got to play cat and mouse with a flock of turkeys after I climbed down at 12:30, got to full draw once but they busted me and started to beat feet out of there after that. Doesn't seem to be a very November-y November right now

Gearhead Archery T24 Carbon out of Wisconsin. Highly recommend….quietest, lightest, and one of the fastest bows I’ve shot. Skip Peterson owns the company and is a class act

Long week at deer camp. So much to unpack today. Brutal. Been burning at all 3 ends all week, exhausted. Hunted hard, super hard, and stayed up too late around the campfire.

Saw some deer. Not one of my better ruts ever though. Went about 25 hours without a sighting last week. Saw one of the craziest chases and fights I've ever seen Friday. Close call on one big buck, wouldn't stop.

I shot a small goofy 7 point buzzerbeater at 12:15 yesterday. Given what I went through this season, he'll do just fine. My old man helped me drag him out just like the old days. Soon I'll be dragging his out, glad he still can.

That was the only buck camp killed I had to break the skunk. A few close calls but most guys had a pretty slow week. 11-1 has been the ticket all week. Some action throughout the morning. Evenings were dead.

That probably ends my bow season. I don't really need a doe but may sneak out a day or two this week. Looking to hunt my MD tag in gun season.

I drove over and hunted a piece of public friday, sat from 10 til 5:30 and saw 3. Slept in the truck and next morning got in the woods at 4:30 am and got back to the truck at about 6:30 pm. I came home and regrouped, I'll be heading back over this afternoon and spending a few more days and all day sits. I saw 1 good buck yesterday, but not worth tagging out on.

Congrats @elk yinzer you way to get it done and @blt348 that's a heck of a buck.

My rutcation was a bust. Not sure what is going on on our farm but something feels off. Had 6 guys hunting during rifle season and saw a total of 4 deer, most years any given hunter could see 4 deer in a single sit. I may take a day to walk the property with my 22 shooting squirrels and trying to bump deer, I'm not convinced anything is bedding on the property this year.
