Team 8 ready!!!

Here is my current view. It is an overlooked WMA right next to a busy highway. I am set up only 40 yards from the road. I hunted here last year and saw deer every sit but I was on the ground and couldn’t pull off a shot. I am up in a tree today. Hopefully something comes by. I hope to fill a doe tag here. Well, no deer were harmed tonight. There was not even a sighting.

I will be out later today, still trying do decide where to sit. On the top side of a field in the oaks or low in the same field where does come out to feed, usually that is...

If your wind is right, I vote hunt the bottom. If the wind is questionable or not more than 7 or 8 mph, I vote top side of field.

I had to change plans, the neighbors were up and they like to shoot guns and four wheel. I went to a different property and set up at a field edge in an oak. A deer showed up ten minutes before closing time,a 1.5 year old buck. He was the first deer in range for me this season but got a pass. Some does were working their way to me but it was after legal time and i had to climb down to go pick up my wife. Good night for sure for a one hour hunt.

I will be out most of the day tomorrow. We had temps in the mid 70's today and it is dropping to 42 in the morning. I hope that will get the deer moving. It is not supposed to warm up above 58 during the day. I would love to at least get a doe down.

Have any of you guys been out? I almost got a doe on the weekend, but she snuck in from behind me and was too close for me to draw. I was waiting for her to pass by meas zbut she turned back where she came from. Later that morning another group came in but the wind had switched without me noticing. The lead doe noticed and got evryone to leave.

I was out Saturday. Changed all of our trail cameras from mineral licks to ground scrapes and pinch points. Ended up hunting the evening and had one deer come in right before dark. It was smaller and by itself, so I didn't want to shoot in case it was a button buck, so I passed. I could smell the tenderloins on that thing...difficult to pass.

I went turkey hunting on Sunday. I saw no turkeys but was really out there for some in season scouting for deer. I found what I was looking for, some very fresh large rubs and tracks leaving a known swamp bed. I am going in this afternoon to hunt that spot. There is a ladder stand in the tree I need to hunt so I plan to use the ladder stand for my platform. This is a stand put up for gun hunting on a WMA. I know this because I have only seen a guy hunt it during gun season and it is accessed from private land. Normally I let the DNR know about illegally hung stands like this but the guy that hung it helped me drag a 210 pound buck out of the swamp one year. I just can't bring myself to call that one in because he was such a nice guy.

Anyway, according to Onx, I believe the bed is only 75 yards from that ladder stand. The wind will be right all day so I am hopeful I will at least get to see the one that made those rubs. If he follows the trail with the rubs, I should get a 15 yard shot.

I just got permission on a new 200 acre property in the middle of a city. Excited to get out and see what’s happening there. Hopefully I can this week, but it’s final exams and final surgeries every day so probably not gonna happen.....

I went out on Friday for a blind hunt on public and had a large doe walk by but since it’s MO CA public it requires the use of one of my any deer tags so she got a pass went again Sunday AM to a place I had permission on almost got an arrow off on a turkey but it’s running mates spook at my draw, did some scouting there because deer are utilizing it different due to new owners on the adjacent property getting ready for gun season...found a bed watching them and my old access so got decide what wind and what exit trail to hunt him on...pretty excited/nervous because of the nearly chest tall rubs and 4 finger prints

I hunted NY with the compound on Sat. and a Morning hunt on Sunday. Nothing on Saturday, it was so hot. On Sunday I called in a small spike which isn't the one I'm looking for but I was willing to take him for a freezer filler. My back cover was to close so I couldn't turn like I like so I had to go back around and go over the bridge and turn and by the time I did that he'd seen enough and started to walk off. I grunted him again and he stopped for a minute more but I couldn't pull him back up the hill. So close. I prefer does for filling the freezer any way.
I took a walk and pulled my cameras on my public spots across the street from my house. Great buck sign right now. Scrapes and rubs all over. I had a hand full of smaller 6 and 8 pointers on camera but I had an 11pt. also He has no mass at all but he was a shooter for me where I hunt so I'll be on the look out for him.
We don't start here in Mass until the 19th.

wow,i am glad i asked. Seems like we are all busy and in the game..I have time to go out for the evening sit,it rained here most of the day and things should be nice and quiet. I may try to sneak into a buck bedding area on a point where i have spooked a nice one a few years ago and found single beds at other times. I have an idea where one might bed on a NW wind. It is mostly fairly open hardwoods but the top has a dense area of beech saplings on it and that is the cover they like to bed against, depending on the wind. We will see if someone is home...

I’ve been busy but gotten out a good bit. Been seeing a few decent bucks from the tree, saw a nice 8 last night. Scouted today and set a camera on a big scrape. Hopefully work will cooperate and I can get out Friday pm

No deer sightings for me tonight. That was disappointing because the area was covered in deer sign and fresh large tracks. I thought sure I would see something.

I haven't had much time to be out yet this year. Had a few sits and saw some does, small bucks and bears, but nothing to really shoot at. I am packing for a trip over to WV tomorrow AM and will be hunting with my close buddies for 5 days on a 1000 acre private mountain top and we usually all knock some does down for the land owner. With this cold front moving through on Friday, the weather should be perfect and a quick check on the moon guide says there shold be great movement as well (if you are into that kind of thing). Good luck to everyone this weekend!
