I love to slow walk on those steady solid rains that just seem to never end. I see way more deer movement on those days than any other day.Right now, there's a 70% chance of rain and t-storms for Friday afternoon. If it's a hard rain, I'll stay in the house and scout from the comfort of dryness. Otherwise, I'll be in a tree Friday afternoon-Sunday morning. Biggest challenge is that it's a tight area so you have to really work the wind.
I’m happy to be on a team. Looks like an entertaining bunch!I ran trail cameras for the first time in multiple season in the wma I get to hunt twice....2 of them malfunctioned and the remaining I got at least 3 different legal bucks...nicest 1 had full antler on 1 side (4 points) and a twig on the other...hahaha.
I don't have the luxury of targeting individual deer and set up on trails and high density of tracks and hope for the best.
The 4 creeks is new to me and I've never been before. Going in blind. Cary I know pretty good but I am the guest on that hunt and kinda limited having to share a vehicle with the host hunter....we have gone and scouted a couple times but we've had lots and lots of rain since then so good majority of the sign we found around the creeks and ditches will be flooded so that will more than likely be a going in blind kinda deal. Guana river, I grew up hiking and exploring out there. I know certain areas of that wma really well and got those bucks on camera in an area I'm familiar with....that place is my highest hopes of connecting but I'm pretty optimistic. Each year I have more and more encounters...last season saw more deer than any prior but for whatever silly reasons I never got a shot.
I take pics for the wife and kids to see some of the neat things I encounter out there and I'll share with u guys.....and if u wanna share I'd like to see. I like seeing how much different the woods look from other parts of the country and the trial and tribulations u go thru
Sporting a new xbow, first timer here. I took it to Guam this spring and definitely had alot of fun with it there. I'm very curious to see how the season goes with it, out side of that, nothing. Going with the same setup I've had for a few years now.U guys get any goodies during the off season u are excited to use this year? My hunting stuff is all the same but I got a topper for my little truck this summer and I'm super excited to have it....I wait to put my permethrin treated clothes on once I get to the hunt spot. Plenty of times it's drizzling and getting undressed and redressed inside my tiny truck is not the easiest thing to do...I can climb up into the bed now and be dry and stretch out to put my pants on...hahaha
The craziest thing happened the other day too....everybody has a keyring with random old keys that they don't know where u got them and have no clue what they go to right? Well, I do.....I took that thing out there and second key I tried worked the lock on the topper. I couldn't believe it.....I take that as a sign/omen....I think it's gonna be good season fellas
Edit: I take that back.... I have a new saddle this year but I've already hunted a handful of times this summer so hours of seat time already and newness worn off a little so I forgot.
I've come close to pushing the complete purchase button more than 5 times but I am hesitant to spend the money and not even no how the material sounds or its durability...... I maybe picking you brain a bunch this season on your personal pros and cons.....I am hunting out of a new Dryad this year. I also have a set of Shickars I am trying out. I did love my beast mini's. Also dived into scent lok, more than I ever have. My scent free game was A1 in Iowa last year.
Looks like I have a last minute window to scout OHIO. Flying out SAT AM-TUES PM
I hunted a bunch out of my Drey. Sun up to sun down most times. The material does make “some” noise but it’s not a deal breaker.I've come close to pushing the complete purchase button more than 5 times but I am hesitant to spend the money and not even no how the material sounds or its durability...... I maybe picking you brain a bunch this season on your personal pros and cons.....
New for this year… latitude method 2 panel, iron will wides and single bevels “can’t decide which to shoot first” and a Sitka tool belt instead of a pack.
Dude...me too. It's like 3 days out and I'm not all anxious like normal.... Everything that needs done is finished....I checked the windy for Friday and glanced around at the map but I'm not sweating it. I'll start walking in at grey light with the wind in my face and just see where I end up and see what happens..... I'm telling u guys, the topper key was an omen.Saturday is locked in, the wife is on board for an am and a pm sit, I just gotta take my daughter to gymnastic in between. With the forecasted winds I should be able to slip in and out of the 2 spots relatively easily, I just have no idea what's around this year... I'm getting worried at how mellow I am this season, typically I can't even go a full work day without taking my "lunch break" somewhere close that I can scout. Or looking for any excuse tp talk about hunting, or driving my wife nuts to the point she almost kicks me out of the house. I mean I even have all my wood cut for the season and some extra, I don't know what happened.......
