Team Johnny 5 is alive!

Not too crazy of story. I got out really early because I am hunting on the food source and have to walk in where deer can potentially see me from a distance. Took the far property line in and then walked in the river bottom to get close to the corner where the deer come out. Found a giant tree right on the edge of a cliff on the river bank. Tethered in on the ground with about a 15 ft drop at my back. Wouldn't have been able to stand where I was at without my saddle because I was leaning out over the river. Had close to 30 does come by some as close as 8 yards on the field edge. The tree I was tethered into was big enough for me to hide behind so I didn't get picked off. Of course big boy followed all the does out onto the field right at the end of legal light and I made a clean shot on him. Still can't believe it all came together so well!
That's awesome. Im happy for you that the story didn't involve some kind of crazy overnight tracking job etc. Those are always cool but not for years later. Sounds like a well executed plan to me.

Well friends with the coming of snow me and my buddies have all been successful in tracking and killing deer. Between tracking and late night long drags I’ve done 30-40 miles the past 2 days. I killed a nice basket rack today. While it doesn’t help the team, I’m happy as the freezer is filling up with meat.

Dude awesome deer! Congrats. I mean but would it have killed ya to wear your saddle while doing all that tracking? Hahaha

Edit: 30-40 miles is INSANE!

How close did you get to that guy? Were you using snowshoes?
Definitely no on the snowshoes; I would never want to navigate the terrain that bucks use with snowshoes on. I snuck up to him feeding at 70 yards. The shot took out his front shoulder and clipped one lung. I tracked him for 3 miles after that and got to within 30 yards of him multiple times before I finally was able to shoot him in his bed at 20 yards.
I actually had a buddy with me who is new to hunting was interested in learning to track.

Thanks for a kind words guys :) I guess it goes both ways I was more excited to tell you guys about it than anybody else. Something about this forum has really clicked with me over the last couple years. I think part of it is that it's just a bunch of real everyday hunters. Go team 5!!!

We are getting hammered by another big storm and I’m excited to have the ability to track for the last two weeks of the season. With these conditions it’s pretty unlikely I’ll get back in the saddle, unless the snow gets crunch or melts entirely.

Team 8 isn’t letting us pull ahead…
I’m tracking again today but if the ground is loud tomorrow I’ll jump back in the saddle and try to move us out front.

Anybody else still have a tag? This could go down to the wire yet!
I do, but I am having trouble dealing with the white stuff!! Any more snow and I'm going to have to break out the snowshoes.
