Tethrd Skeletors

"first one's on us".....:tearsofjoy:

Unless, it's not...

Shame though, imo, may be their best offering to date.

There's a lot to like in this design, not all due to the team at Tetherd. But some very much so.

So the question I have is, why the bent-standoff problem?

Poor manufacturing? Thoughts?

I think it is mostly not having bevels on those bottom corners of the stand offs. When I put mine on a tree and pull the bottom out and push down as per Tethrd instructions, then stand on the sticks they still try to slide down a bit, the bottom of the bottom stand off wants to dig into the bark not allowing the top stand off to keep tight contact. This puts all of the weight on the bottom stand off.
I think beveling the bottom corners would eliminate that problem and I also think the original stand offs would be plenty strong.

Could be, but beveled standoffs weren't a thing when sticks became a thing, and I don't remember bent standoffs being a thing back then.

So, I'm struggling with that. Is it more sag from the non-versa-cam-strap attachment? Or something else?

But, yeah, the bevel is answering the mail on some stands and sticks.

Gotta be asofter heat treat then it is supposed to be or totally wrong grade of aluminum to bend like that on a set stick. I don't trust the Chinese to hold specs and not change stuff up on the fly. They are pretty shady on alot of the manufacturing stuff, substitute stuff here and there all the time. We get stuff at work all the time out of spec. We even got some overseas radioactive pipe one time. Good stuff.
You nailed it

I’ve had and have quite a few different sticks and none of them have thin, sharp, stand-offs like the Skeletors, but none of them are high dollar super lightweight sticks either. I have straps and rope mods and the Skeletors stretch less than all of them. You will have some sag with whatever you use and the larger the tree the more you have. When stick designers are in competition for light weight the parts are not going to be as robust as heavier sticks, and I don’t expect them to be. I have XOP and Muddy Pro sticks that are pretty solid but very heavy. I’ve played with the Skeletors a bit and if those bottom corners don’t dig in I have confidence they won’t bend..
I‘ve done a lot of research and bent stand offs are rare. What I do feel better about is the ones that do bend do not break.

Yeah I second that. A bent standoff isn't great, but a broken one is dangerous. Conversely, there now a potential niche market for milled SKELETOR standoffs.

The SKELETOR standoffs look like cast products, so be wary of brittle failure. Based on the look of mine either they have the poor welding and grinding, or their cast.

Just my observation as I haven't asked anyone to confirm my assumptions, but I'll still use them.

I don't see the Skeletor's as super lightweight sticks. 2lbs/stick, right?

They do offer a good balance of features and price though.

But similar weight sticks don't have a reputation of bent standoffs. So maybe it's the design then?

Same. I’m a big fan of these sticks.

Note to self:

1/4"dia, 1" shank, locking nut

Cable aiders maybe difficult to stack, too much "tink tink" factor, gonna go amsteel style aider instead.
That's what I have on my hawk minis a cable aider from EWO. I think I'm gonna make a tube one step movable aider for my Skeletors though.

Is it concensus that we should request the thicker bottom standoffs? And Tethrd will send them? I ordered mine on Black Friday.

From other posts on other forums Tethrd will only replace broken stand offs with the new improved model under warranty. They only have minimal stock of the new stand offs but will be selling the improved ones on their web site once stocked up.

Somehow that just ain't right.
Yes, I agree. That’s a price you often pay for first generation anything.

Also, on the box that warranty is one year.

This is patently unacceptable. It's a design flaw that has safety implications. They need to bite the bullet and make it right.

The skeletors are the first and only thing I've purchased from Tethrd. And if they don't make it right, it will be the last.

If history is any predictor of the future the will replace them if they break. That 1 year warranty thing kinda rubs me a little wrong though.
