"The official saddle hunting backpack thread"

It carries them very well, I know everyone’s setup is different. This pack fits this sticks exceptionally well. In cold weather I put my jacket inside pack and strap bibs on, I put them(bibs ) on at the base of the tree when I get my sticks off the pack. I don’t put my jacket on for awhile on stand to regulate heat.........

Thanks for the info, looks like i may be giving that pack a shot! Have you ever strapped a bow to it after taking off the sticks instead of using a pull up rope?

And with sticks if that’s what I feel like using instead of the Steps.

My two climbing methods are 5 squirrel steps with knaider/swaider OR 4 cut LW steps with double swaider.

Steps are kept in a shoulder pouch in the pack and deployed in the walk in where I add any needed layers. ROS stay in the pouch or get moved to a saddle pouch if using the sticks.

Have a couple of exterior pouches on the way for some easy access to essentials.

How does that silent reaper do in the cold? Get louder as temps go down?

Lowest it’s been in North AL is mid twenties so far. Haven’t noticed any noise difference. The material leads me to believe it won’t affect it though. It’s about as close to fleece as you can get without being fleece. Only complaint is lack of exterior storage/access but I’m working on that.

MR Pop Up 18. I don’t carry a bunch of stuff like some, but this one suits me fine. Platform on the load shelf and stick on top. If I’m filming the camera arm goes on the load shelf as well. The camera and shoulder for the arm goes inside.

Let's see them post it up with pics. I went thru so many packs and I think I've found the one (Kuiu 1850 Pro). Here is my go to setup as if now. Whats in the pack. Badlands Pyre jacket and bibs (in these pic the bibs are not in the pack but will fit in there too), Badland bino C/Vortex 10x42, Garmin Gps, range fider, headlamp and flashlight, kill kit, water blatter, first aid kit, rope, deer calls and extra battery's.

No pack definitely can see me using just the frame more in the future

So this may be a dumb question. I have the same kuiu pack with the 2200 bag. It's an awesome pack. Just dove into the saddle hunting. What are you doing with the pack in the tree? Seems like a large pack to keep out of the way in the tree. Are you climbing with the pack on or pulling it up after you are set? Simple questions but trying to shorten the learning curve as much as possible. I really want to use the pack but felt it would be more in the way than useful.

The 1850 is a perfect day pack and size, not to big or to small. I'm sure the 2200 is alot bigger. It's a great feature because Kuiu packs are modular and you can grab any size pack you want. Imo wish there was a smaller size than the 1850 for early season. As soon as i get to the tree i never take off my pack. My bow is on the pack as I climb. All I do is undue the hip straps and drop my stick that I carry by hand like a rifle and set up and climb. Pretty much the opposite if you decide to strap your sticks on the pack. Climb with your pack on your back still and have bow on your pack or can fish your gear up you decide. You can also walk in hands free and have your bow and sticks on the pack. The frame really shines at this you would think it'll be heavier on one side but nope.
I hang my pack on a daisy chain weebing using the loop on the pack with a S biner.
Once I set up I have the pad and platform out of the loading shelf everything compresses really nicely up against the tree. I use the waist strap to strap around the tree as I'm doing this I put the foam pad underneath the belt.

Does anyone have experience using a kifaru muskeg 2800, in theory it would work for a 3 part system.
Sticks can go in the load shelf or on the 3 compression straps.
Platform or stand with the 2 vertical straps.
Camera arm on top of the bag with the lid strap.

I plan on making my own so I can put it on my mystery ranch frame.

I have recently purchased the deadfall and have not used it yet, the material is loud and the pack is pretty big
The fabric looked to be Cordura, which I knew wouldn't be super quiet, but it'll last forever. My question would be how well it packs down. The MR 28 packed down a lot when it wasn't loaded, the X2 not so much.

I can take some pictures of mine for you if you want to see how it packs down

Add me to the MR Pop Up 28 list. I don't have pix handy at the moment. I got it this year wanting something on the smaller end that made long walks a breeze and would allow me to pack a deer out. I've used it two ways this season: 1 - packing WE stepps in the bag, layers strapped to the outside, wearing my saddle/platform in. 2 - packing layers in the bag, strapping sticks to the outside, wearing my saddle/platform in. #2 is what I've been doing lately in anticipation of my beast sticks coming in. I take the sticks off at the tree, put one on the tree, one on each side of the saddle, pull my 2nd one up while on the first step. 4 sticks up I take out my gear hanger and strap to the tree, attach my pack to it, attach my platform and switch to my tether. Once I'm on my platform I get my layers on. Top pouch has my essentials: calls, range finder, flash light, release, license, gopro, etc. That stays open while I'm in the tree. Front pouch has my kill kit: basically game bags and knife.

At this point, if I didn't want to have something with me to pack a deer out, I'd probably just roll without a pack. However, it's been awesome to have and it makes any weight you do carry feel like nothing. Two things I'd improve on it: make the material quieter, make the zippers quieter. Not issues that would make me get rid of it though because once I've got it hanging in the tree I'm basically not touching it.

I think i'm numb from looking at packs. i'm in a pack coma. i'm just a mindless zombie, floating along the internet, looking at every backpack in existence. i don't believe it exists, yet. i wish i could find one that used a compression pocket or panel to hold the bow on the back, so that i could stuff clothing in with the bow and press it all down onto the pack. the cabelas bow/rifle appears to have that. the slumberjack hone, and the former ascent from badlands. i also appreciate a generous amount of molle on the outer parts, so I can customize my pack.

I went cheap amazon pack, but fits my platform perfectly. Platform & fleece saddle inside, bow hanger top pocket, knee pads bottom pocket, extra clothing bottom strapping, sticks in Talons.

I’m currently searching for a badlands silent reaper or stalker and coming up empty. Since it was discontinued a while back, are the newer packs similar in how quiet the reaper/stalker were?
