Truck build

Waiting on parts to arrive for any big progress.... Got the beginnings of the winch mount plate/bumper started....still rough design that will change as I get the bumper built.

The winch rope has option of orange, black, blue, and green. Personally liking the lime green or blaze orange... What do u guys think?

Definitely lime green!!

About all I can do until it's build day....if u look at the pic of the bumper I'm copying u see pipe spanning between the frame. I found a bunch of scrap 3" schn40 pipe I'll use for the bumper. U can see how the gussets will box the mount back in onto itself....the mount welds to the top of the pipe and the gussets weld to the pipe and the mount plate. I'll add 4- 5 gussets to rib for her pleasure. Should be pretty stout. I made it long so if once the work begins the winch can move back toward the grill I can easily modify these pieces to adjust distances

Weld on urethane bushings

I need the brown truck to show up a couple times and it'll be close to time to start ...can't wait to torch off all the silly 2wd independent front suspension parts and leave them in a smokey pile in the dirt

It looks like you’re moving right along... truck envy coming soon lol

The front axle currently has a truss welded on to accommodate upper 4 link mounts and double ended hydraulic steering ram. My prediction is that cutting all that stuff off will be the worst part of the job. It's on there pretty good. The axle is built based on a 79 ford Dana 60 so the leaf spring mount that is a part of the center section of the axle is set for a 32 center2center spring perch and my frame is a 36.25 c2c so there may be some tomfoolery with the driver side leaf spring perch on the axle but nothing I'm too worried about....just may take some brain power for a sec and "custom" modification....once those 2 hurtles are overcome it'll be smooth I think... we'll see. This will be my 6th solid axle swap and each 1 is different....I'll poke.aroumd and see if I can dig up some pics of other stuff I made/been a part of making...
This is the first 1 that has a main intension of being a daily driver....all the others were trail rigs that rode on trailers to the trails. Gotta run the numbers/angles on all the suspension parts 2 or 3 times so I get good ride quality...keeping ur shackle at 90degrees in relation to the mounting bolt spring eye is what I'm shooting for but sometimes there's stuff in the way and u gotta compromise. Shackle angle affects spring rate so u can end up with a harsh ride with springs that are perfectly good...either too stiff or soft...for a dedicated trail rig it's really not so critical and I would set up for softer spring with lots of droop in the suspension with not much regard for uptravel. At 90 degrees (in relation to the spring, not the ground) I'll get the most usable up and down travel...the spring rate should be fine..the springs were designed for a 76 with pretty much the same engine options so there shouldn't be a noticable weight difference between the front of a 76 and 87. I already have some nice shocks that hopefully aren't to long

Dude with your welding skills I am sure you’ll figure out some adaptor plate to line it up right. I understand for your intended use the alignment isn’t as important but you also have to get from the house to the trail (unless you’re trailering the truck every time) for that reason alone I would brain scheme a solution. Again I’m in town, if you ever need a hand just holler.

What engine are you going with anyway? Perhaps a 351 M? They are a torque monster!

Photobucket sucks....I have 1 from a long time ago that was free back then....now when I try to get on there they hide all my pics and say I gotta pay money. That's messed up.
I got pics of 2.5 ton f150 that is sweet but I can't view them

You almost lost me at S10 lol

4.9.300ci
I have a M block outta a 78 bronco stuffed away in the corner of the garage for a vehicle someday. They kinda suck to build because of the low compression ratio and no real aftermarket...great engines killed by government emissions crap...the i6 that's in the truck runs great and makes just as much torque

My 82 has the same in line 300. Bullet proof motor!
