It's basically a more extreme form of Atkins, 75% calories from fats, 20% from protein and 5% or less from carbs usually a hard limit of 20grams of net carbs per day. What is different between keto and Adkins?
I'm turning 58 in may and eat too much.
My weight fluctuates from 220 to 210 from winter to summer but just won't go down more than that and I am fairly active.
@SETXsportsman6 I started keto a little over a year ago. 90 percent of my job is sitting in front of a computer console pushing buttons as well. I lost 70lbs in seven months. No gym trips but did lose some muscle mass as well. Quit dipping in October and pretty much quit losing weight as well. @Bwhana was telling me about someone challenging him to 100 pushups a day. My shoulder says FU to a hundred pushups a day but I can do them every other day and have been swapping out with lunges on the days I don’t do pushups. I do those in my desk area at work in my down time. My guilty pleasure was smoothies. I used almond butter/cocoa stevia almond milk and ice to make a smoothie that was similar to a Reese’s milkshake. The toughest thing is getting started. You can do it. Good luck.

My aunt, cousin and father all had it. My cousin had lap band and my dad and aunt gastric bypass. My advice would be to try other methods first, particularly what others have mentioned on this post. My relatives all have long term complications now. If you want details PM me.Hey guys,
I know this isn't quite on the topic of saddles, or hunting. But has anyone here ever had weight loss surgery or considered it? I've considered it myself here lately. Just curious if any of you had been through it.
No difference. I bought every used book by Atkins I could find. He talks about getting your body into a keto state. He was the first to popularize it in my lifetime. Search for a book online called. "My Life with the Eskimo" by V. Stefansson written around 1922. Great read for hunters. Eskimos ate nothing but fat and meat. What is different between keto and Adkins?

Ok I could lose a few too and like BigFoot552, I fluctuate around those exact same weight ranges summer to winter, winter to summer. My issue is I weigh that much and I'm only 5'8" tall on a good day. My build is stocky so I have muscle mass in my legs so a large part of my weight is that but it is also my beer gut. I have been blessed that at my 52 years, I still take absolutely no medication(s) whatsoever and I do have a decently active lifestyle. My problem is my day job is at a desk and cumulatively, that "desk jockey" time starts to pack the midriff with a gut that is embarrassing and I just want to be in better shape overall. My concern with KETO is cholesterol and the resulting arterial sclerosis. Now my research on KETO is about 'nill and because I have not done the research, please do not misinterpret my concerns with cholesterol with being a bash on Keto. It is not whatsoever, It is just hard for me to believe that eating bacon and other high fat foods does any good. High protein, high veggie, high fruit intake I understand and no complex carbs I also get, but I do not get the high fat stuff. I know many who swear by it and are doing and looking great. But, also, realistically (and I still have two younger kids 6th and 4th grades) and they have no weight problems, It just isn't realistic for our home to not have carbs. Anyway, I just do not want cement filled arteries at 75. Something I have started to consider is GOLO? Has anybody researched this?
Sugar is not your friend. Cutting out sugar and the fat will melt off of you.I’ve been keto two years. I’m currently 46 years old. Heart disease and diabetes is common in my family. My keto version is high fat moderate protein and low carb. A high percentage of my calories is fat. Homemade mayonnaise, butter, bacon, and animal fats. I’m fine with oils that are pressed but not chemically extracted. After two years of eating this way I had a physical with bloodwork. My cholesterol was near perfect as was everything else that was tested. Only thing doctor had to say was I was still overweight. Don’t trust me on the cholesterol issue but do your own research. Mine has lead me to believe that the fat you eat has nothing to do with cholesterol. I suggest the book cholesterol clarity. It explains in detail why we should not fear fat.

Day two of Keto starts today. Thanks to @Squatch for the coaching offer. I really don't know why I wasnt considering keto rather than going straight for the surgery. I really appreciate everybody's input. This post might have been what saved me from making a big mistake.
Thanks. I'm going to try the intermittent fasting. However I work shift work so sometimes I work days sometimes I work nights and on days I wake up at 2:15 to head to work. So it's going to take some planning ahead of time to figure out a fasting schedule I suppose. You have any questions just ask. I usually keep it simple and just do a protein and vegetable. I do have a few recipes though that are good. I also do intermittent fasting usually. When I work I don’t eat anything until I’m home from work. Sometimes on the weekends I’ll eat breakfast though.

Just remember it's a marathon. Set small goals to stay focused. I changed some bad habits a couple years ago and just started by making myself 100% accountable for one day. So if i told myself i was going do something I did it with no compromise for a whole day. And then it turned into 2 and 3 etc.. I found I always said I would do something but didn't always followed through. So, once I became accountable to myself it changed everything. You can do it! Keep it up!Day two of Keto starts today. Well hell I'm sold! LmaoKeto rocks. Went full keto April of 2018. Went from 225-230 to 165. Still eat keto. The first 3-4 weeks totally suck. Once you get through that it’s easy. People ask me about my diet. I respond it’s not a diet it’s just the way I eat. The key with keto is absolutely zero cheating. Like others have stated. Getting your fat intake high is crucial.
Honestly the best thing about keto is it makes your package look bigger.
