What are you doing during this winter blast?

Finished plowing after first installment and now inside tending the coal stove. Wife just finished wrapping and placing the grandkids gifts under the tree. Reflecting on how gracious God is to have sent His Son to die for a sinner like me- to leave the Heavenly Glory to come as a helpless baby. Merry Christmas to all!

Amen. Merry Christmas to you brother!

Couldn't said it better myself. Amen!

-2 and feels like -24 just now according to the weather. Postponed trip to visiting the wife's family out of state due to blizzard. Not going anywhere or doing anything for now.

In Western NY, near the Bills stadium.
Just switched from coffee to spiced rum. Stew in the slow cooker and fresh hot Italian bread coming out of the oven in a minute with a hot Italian lady baking it. Probably have some chow and curl up with a movie. Nobody is leaving and nobody is coming to visit, so screw the driveway, it can wait til this mess is done being made.

So most of the Eastern? Country seems to be getting blasted by some form of weather. What are you doing these next few days?
I have the day off. It's 5 deg and says 35mph winds. So I was drinking coffee and about to make breakfast. Have been watching some does on the back neighbors hill mingle around some. Kinda surprised to see them in some kinda opening.
Any one after it on these windy chilly days?

woke upto frozen main water line coming into house even though i prepped i totally forgot to leave the faucets on overnight, got it defrosted after a couple hours and water restored but it was an eventful morning for sure. This is a new property for me (moved in october) and first time not on slab in almost a decade so still getting in the mindset lol overall turned out to be a beautiful day, cooked gumbo had a couple locals over, helped them help a couple people winterize in town. I dont currently have hunting gear thatll allow me to sit in below 30’s so taking the weekend off lol i aint mad at em this year plus my freezer is full.

What is that small cast iron stand? Looks like a little wood stove base.
It was my grandmothers than my Dad’s, now it’s mine. I think it was a skillet as it has a slight lip on the edge of it. However, my grandmother always had the cast iron clothing iron setting on it so I wondered if she used to use it as an ironing board back in the day. We just like it near the woodstove for nostalgia as it was always near the fireplace or woodstove at grandma’s. But who knows maybe it was for a little stove base???

I shoveled in -12 last night.... wind blowing 20mph... I'm cozying up with a bourbon and reading a book... with this weather and Christmas plans with the family, I may be done for the year... gets bearable out right when I leave to Fargo to hang with family

Getting trapping gear in final order gonna try to catch me a bobcat next week. First time trying out trapping. Been thinking about doing it for years got a wild hair and decided this is the year. Just have to dye and wax tomorrow and I'll be off and running on the 26th. I have a lot of spots I've noted over the years but not sure how many I can get to with icy roads. Have a fisher tag also and later in the season may target some beaver although I am more of a land mammal.

Other than that cooking, drinking, and eating. We're hosting the meal this year got a prime rib dry brining today. I'll smoke that on the Weber. Crab cakes, lots of sides. Walleye chowder and shrimp cocktail for lunch. Mise en place and cleaning the place tomorrow

Florida checking in... 60°F today lots of sunshine.
Overnight low +24°F and a high of +44°F and wall to wall sunshine all day long. A shorts and long sleeve shirt day. Perfect for the woods, I can leave the thermal cell at home.
Merry Christmas!

Hope you catch one. That’s one I’ve not caught yet as we didn’t even have a season on them until about 10 years ago. They’re not trap shy like a coyote and cubbies seem to work well. But they’re few and far between so you need to lay some steel down in likelynareas to have a chance. Good luck!!

Thanks! You in PA too or nearby, if I remember? My goal this year is just to learn and lay down some fundamentally solid sets in these tougher conditions. I have a short window from the 26th-30th then again a few days early January. I have 8 traps but I'm only gonna set spots I feel are primo, so I don't know if I'll get half of them out. I know where two dens are/were and a few other prime travel areas. The gear has been pretty easy and affordable to assemble I have some old stuff from my dad's trapping days that helped and aside from that I'm into it less than $200. That's like one decent fishing pole or 1/2 a saddle a anymore. Refreshing.
