What did you do today that’s related to saddle hunting?

Fine tuned my climbing setup based on last weekends failures. Also got my USGI waist pouch from devil dog depot (not sure who posted the link but credit goes to you).

With these tweaks, I’m ready for my next hunt in two weeks. After the overly curious/defiant doe last weekend, the new rule is “If it’s brown, it’s down”.

Pulled some cards. I have some random bucks on camera, but nothing patterned except for a few doe spots. At the least I hope to be able to use the info to meat hunt! :)

Put the separate tether back in play and am thinking I’ll keep it. It seemed like less cumbersome, much smoother and quieter.

I also had an oh chit moment, but was fortunate enough that it was only a minor slap in the face. I dropped my platform yesterday afternoon after trying to be slow and methodical. I hang it from a clip on the rear of my saddle and simply grab it and attach it. When I was bringing it around it slipped through my fingers! I tied a prussik loop to the end of my rappel line and was able to loop over and hitch the stand-off part that was on the upside. At that point, I was more concerned with “What if that was my rappel rope?” I’ve just had it rolledup in its pouch, but not attached. If it fell, I’d be one sticking down or waiting on someone else to throw me an end. I decided I’ll start clipping it’s biner to a loop.

Got a canoe :)

It is a 17 foot fiberglass. I went and got it instead of hunting in the sunny 70 F day today. I can either walk .75 miles to my stand or just cross a road, walk a few yards and then cross a river. This will help. Maybe I will look into some new spots!

What are the 3 things,
.50 muzzleloaders, and bolt action receiver/bolt sets specifically. Savage 110, Parker Hale Mauser, and P14 Enfield with the ears milled off. Also wound up with 2 .308 AR stripped receiver sets; 1 now has a Faxon 16" .308 barrel and the other will grow up to be either a .358Win or 6.5CM. Wound up with an extra couple of Spanish Mausers and an extra Arisaka 7.7 barreled action. My 4-pack of Schmidt-Rubins (1K89, 1K11, 2K31s; out of the 4 only 1 K31 is in collector condition; the rest are Bubba'd to various degrees) was entirely intentional.

In keeping with my tradition of changing everything right before a hunt, I received my Bullman Apex steps today.

4 steps with ratchet strap weights 1.3# compared to 3.3# for the predator with amsteel daisy. Playing around on a tree, they seem as comfortable as the platform when leaning. Moving around the tree, the steps seem easier as I'm more or less remaining centered with my legs below me as opposed to pushing off with the platform.

Naturally, they're not as stable as a platform and will miss being able to freely stand on the platform and work without hanging from the tether but will put them through their paces this weekend.

Got the ebike back from the shop after having a new derailleur and cable installed. I had a cut stump jam it up real bad as soon as I got going!
This guys shop was awesome and he adjusted he brake cable i forgot to ask about..
I guess a found a full service shop for when I tear the next thing up!

Not today but this weekend I'll be:

- Sewing (1) 17" webbing double aider
- Making (4) 8' 1/8" amsteel daisies
