What did you do today that’s related to saddle hunting?

This is always a fun type thread. I know I’m always doing something related to the outdoors and this saddle thing has completely consumed me. I learned to tie some knots last night

Nice knot work. I JRB. I have spurs in case I need another way up. So just tied non jamming compact ascenders on both my lineman/tether ropes. I also have really enjoyed learning knots.

Orderd a full body harness to replace my rock climbing harness. Just to avoid hanging upside down.
Connected two chest ascenders to replace the hitches in the JRB climbing system.
Let‘s see where this may lead to.

Tangentially related, but I went to the range and checked zero on my 450 Bushmaster for firearms that opens next weekend. Made some slight adjustments. Should be getting a new to me Trophyline Ambush Lite tomorrow. Couldn’t pass it up for $80. Reviews are mixed but for a short hunt I’m sure it’s fine. Planning on scouting at a local state park tomorrow for a reduction hunt since it’s supposed to be a high of around 80 degrees.

I went saddle hunting in my friend's Method 2 to try it out and completely blew it with a forkie by smacking my crossbow into the branch above me when drawing it.:eek::eek::sob:

(Oh, and I'll be buying a Method 2)

Made an amsteel continuous loop for my 24oz nalgene so it hangs nicely from my gear hanger.

Went for a walk with my crossbow to go pick up my tether from the tree I left it under. o_Oo_Oo_O
At least it was right there!

got my new climbing rope tied up, 8mm Mammut Alpine Dry with Sterling 7mm JRB hitches, did 3 climbs in the yard and its a dream coming from 11.4mm predator. I do still like the predator though bc i can see if its really cold i would rather the grip of the thicker rope. Originally i wasnt sure how i would feel being at height staring at 8mm rope but its allll gooood.

Is that dynamic?

So you don't find it takes much of any more effort to climb? I was just curious as I climb static rescue tech. Thank you
I dont find it takes any more effort than the predator rope i moved from. Now if youre on resc tech already ehh i cant say it it would be easier or harder than that. But from my 11.4 predator to this i find it to be about the same effort maybe easier, definitely not harder.

Resurrecting the dead

I went out to practice one stick climbing and try out my madrock safeguard. Still some work to be done with my climbing but the madrock worked great.

also, went to pull a camera I’ve had out for nine months at chest height. Someone broke the mount, wiped the card, and turned it off. I’ve been hunting this park for three years without issue. Yes I know I didn’t put a lock on the door, which was my mistake, I got complacent but the many people I’ve had just waving at my camera and being respectful here even when I come across them in the woods.

the only reason I had it so low is because I often take my 2.5 year old hiking through here and swapping cards without having to set up a stick with him is a must. Unfortunately it looks like that activity with him has to come to an end. Back to hanging them 12 ft up.

I did some scouting last month. Been doing some research this week on changing my set up a bit, but that is about it. NOT got the total bug yet!

Feel that pain. Bring snacks. When it's time to set a stick sit him on a log and whip out a snack. Usually occupies mine long enough to get done what you need and keeps the kids happy

I’ve tried that while just swapping cards, his usual response is “go look for deer antlers daddy” as he sprints off in a random direction. He’s good when I keep directing him to look at this or that and teach him something, but as soon as I have to do something he’s off like a rocket. On the positive, he’s got woods in his blood, him and my 10 year old have no problem taking 5 mile hikes with me, ice part is they carry there own packs.
