What did you do today?

For the first time ever spent Easter Morning in the turkey woods, my daughter & I called in a few hens & a couple jakes. Beautiful day & some good times visiting & napping b/w gobbles.
How old is your daughter? I have a newborn and I am really wanted to get her into hunting and the outdoors. Any tips?

She’s 16, I started with both my kids when they were probably 5-6 my son is 19 he loves camp but could care less about hunting. But when we all get together he’s all in. I would say it was easier for my daughter to get involved than my son, it can be kinda tough to find stuff to do with your daughter. I was the same with both kids & took them when they asked, then didn’t press them as they got older & had other interests/ commitments. Best thing you can do is make it enjoyable, don’t make them grind. Take plenty of snacks & treat each time out wondering how they will look back on the experience. We spent last weekend in the turkey woods & spent the night at the cabin, no shots fired but my daughter loved it. That’s a win! Just spend time showing them what you do & how you do it they’ll have a million questions, you’ll have plenty to talk about. You’re gonna hear this from everyone who has grown or almost grown kids, but that newborn is going to be 20 before you know it, don’t miss a second!

That looks like some kind of good!

We make pork shoulders( skin on) in the oven.
We stab it and pack to holes full of an olive oil spices and lots of minced garlic paste. Cook it covered for 3 hours and then uncovered for 1 hour.

Finally shot my bow. Ordered a new string, replaced it but lost my football for my rip cord drop away. Had to order a new one. Also ordered a padded quieter rest they had. So they got me for an extra 10. Installed those today, put my EZ V on. Put some shots on target. Felt good to shoot the bow again. I have hunted with xbow last few years. But getting into saddle hunting got my urge to use my bow again. Working towards a heavy arrow tune. One reason I put the bow away. I didn't feel like the shots I had put down were good ones before. Target panic and lack of penatration. Hoping the EZV helps, and some razor sharp broad heads make the difference.

Sounds like you are making the perfect adjustments. I just listened to a ranch fairy podcast yesterday and he said he has a bad bad case of target panic, but the ezv took care of that. And heavy arrows and sharp fixed heads should take care of the rest.

Got another nuisance beaver but now on another spot. This was a first night catch. They're flooding out a gas well tender road. This is a bit of a job as it is way back in on a public watershed property. The best part of this job is the view. When I went back to set this pond yesterday I felt like I was back in time during the mountain men days of the fur trade. So beautiful, some good deer sign around here too. I put some marks on onX scouting this out.

I sprayed 4.5 acres of future food plot at the family farm. This will be my first food plotting adventure except for helping my dad design his blend on his place. Hopefully I can get some deer activity on the place so my son can get a deer.

There will be a 2 acre dove plot, a 2 acre main deer plot, and a 0.5 acre joint-vetch/Alyce clover plot.

I got my Border Tempest riser today.

This might be my last night shift on this project. Hooray!

Tomorrow I will scale limbs and shoot.
I am very interested to see the geometry on these.

I stump shot my new heavy arrows.
700gr, 28.5% foc, A&A fletch. I'm finally getting it dialed in.
Then I went and killed privet, bush honeysuckle, bittersweet, and grape vines.
Looks like my pear trees came thru the freezes and frosts...I think I see tiny pears starting to develop.

I checked my beaver sets, nothing today and found another run I didn't see before and set a trap in it. If I'm dry tomorrow I'm pulling them and I have one more location to eradicate. I also did some yard work, mowed my lawn for the fist time this year (and it begins), and rototilled two big beds next to our house.

Show pics of the riser when you get a chance.

I climbed a tree with my DRT setup and practiced shooting from the saddle. I love it,it seems so easy to bend at the hip for the downward angle because that is what is holding one up anyway. I got nice groups and shot placement.

I got out to shoot the Border Tempest today. It has lots by way of design features. The forward weight plus the additional weight system, the high amount of reflex in the handle.
It is accurate and has a decent power band. At 3 turns out it felt very smooth but did hit dirt at distance. I went two turns out and eventually to one turn out to match performance of Das Dalaa set at 3 turns out. Das has the most snort.
I would place the Tempest much closer to Morrison Phoenix if not near identical in performance.
I damagedScreenshot_20200419-185709_Gallery.jpgScreenshot_20200419-185729_Gallery.jpgScreenshot_20200419-185737_Gallery.jpg a nock nearly a Robinhood.

Left to right, Dalaa, Tempest, Phoenix and Hex6bb2 limbs.
As of this writing the Das is my favorite. They are all good shooters.
The Das is billed as a 21" but is closer to 20". I would have a hard time choosing between the other two as far as shootabilty and performance. For the money, I would take the Morrison and its simpler. Take note this is a "heavy" riser as I like the bottom Screenshot_20200419-192139_Gallery.jpgweighting. Morrison makes lighter ones. Just my two cents. I hope it helps someone.
For real long draws I would definitely recommend Phoenix or Tempest first.
