What did you do today?

Keep a light on them if you want eggs in the winter. You got to keep thinking long summer days in the winter.

See you in a tree, Ricky
Production will probably still slow down a little even with heat lamps, but yes, this

I'm leaving that up to my wife. She will probably decide to let them rest up a bit. Supposedly, rhodes average an egg a day once they get going. We're giving half the flock to my FIL once they get their coop built, but we'll still have too many eggs. I'll pickle the surplus up to eat during deer season.

If anyone wants to get into it, I gotta say I'm pretty impressed with the enclosure I built. Framed it up with 2x4s and 3/4" PVC. Doesn't weight nothin', didn't hardly cost nothin', and it's 6' tall so you can go in and out as needed. Took half a day to build, but most of that time was spent staring into space and trying to picture what the heck I was about to do. And drinking a few cold ones. It was kinda funny. The FIL is a pretty awesome mechanic, but not much of a carpenter. My dad builds houses, so I was ripping 2x4s and cutting joints with a skilsaw that had its guard removed...half-hammered. He was over visiting and I think was impressed that I knew how to do something that didn't involve typing or gutting. I'll probably end up having to build another for him.

The things I do for love...

I reminded myself of a funny story from back when I still had hair down to my back and was dating a girl with really perky...hair. My wife's family's menonite-wannabe friends were over to help with goat butchering. The lady was gonna learn me all about butchering a goat...whoo boy.

I forget not everyone lives where the air gets so cold it literally hurts bare skin in the winter. Since you live down south and it doesnt get as cold there you might not experience a slowing in egg production. It takes more energy to keep themselves warm up in MN

Yeah, I'm more concerned with keeping them from turning into fried chicken in the coop right now

Package from DanO came today, setup my Kestrel with Ultratech 5/16" lineman's belt, and finished up my 35' Ultratech 5/16" tether and rappel package. Prusik and Distel with tenders, respectively (same setup I had before with Predator, but just less bulky).

I've also been looking kind of stupid most of the day. The other day, I opened a package of Remington small pistol primers to see how the heck they fit 1000 primers into such a small package (the answer is, they store them on their side, instead of flat like everyone else). Well, I managed to fumble putting the tray back in the package, sending primers all over my carpeted apartment.

So I spent a lot of the day crawling all over my carpet, petting it with my hand while wearing a headlamp. I managed to find all but 1 of the primers. I really want to give up, but I'd rather not find it some time later when it explodes inside my vacuum cleaner from ESD.

Got a rescue 8 for back up and used it for the first time this morning while it was still cool and low humidity. Works much nicer and smoother than my ATC. At least it felt that way. Might use that from now on and keep the ATC as a backup.

Made some privacy screens for the wife. Making some deposits in the family time bank account. Don't want that sucker over drafted come hunting season time.

Practiced climbing and playing with the new setup. I've been trying to get out, but not nearly as much as I'd like, so I'm still kinda shakey, but definitely getting there. Next week, planning to take the bow up and get some shots off.
