Who has snorted the Fairy Dust?

But I've had largely different results. I wonder if the 1.5" heads are the difference? But I was getting through with the 2" blades as well.
Bow tune will likely affect penetration as well. I never tuned my bow since the mechanicals fly and hit in the same spot as the field points. It's entirely possible that my arrows were skewed considerably less than perpendicular to the deer on impact. A lot of arrow energy is then expended bringing the arrow in line as it passes into the deer. Also the angle of cut is driven slightly sideways instead of just straight thru. When I made the change back to fixed I had to do considerable adjustment to my rest to get the point of impact of the fixed heads the same as the field points.

Nice deer. He ole Greg was at one of our turkey spots. Local guy run him off and told him to leave it off YouTube.

My uncle found Bills QB Jim Kelly in his treestand. (Farmer gave Jim permission and my uncle didn't know). My uncle says he would have run him off if Jimbo wasn't so nice. (Uncle is maybe 5'10", lol). It's a great story.

I swear that a properly tuned bow is the Holy Grail for all but guaranteeing complete pass throughs. I bet mechanicals got that notoriety for poor terminal performance from folks like you and I and many others who shot them with bows slinging arrows sideways, lol. Once I realized my arrows were sailing sideways and I tuned my bow, I had complete pass throughs on a bear and two deer that season using 2 blade Rages. The lack of durability of mechanicals was what finally made me switch to using fixed blades and upping the weight of my arrows seemed like a good insurance policy. Since then, I've been putting two holes in every hide I shoot at no matter what entry point or angle.

Same

I am just surprised by the lack of pass throughs Greg was getting and you. I really appreciate Greg on THP, his experience and demeanor balances the group. While I find some of the others more interesting to watch, I like Greg
The best.

Nice bucks. BTW, I agree with you @Plebe, I identify with Greg the most as well. Appreciate watching his solo bow hunts the most.

I could go on about it. It doesn’t take
Much for some folks to figure it out. Bad part he was in a killer area for turkeys. Only a few of us know and hunt it. Could have been bad. Still kinda made a video but not much.

I jumped in with both feet, last fall. I was shooting an Obsession Fusion 7 @ 55# and a 29" DL. Using Gold Tip Hunter XT 400s @ 28" and 125 gr. tip weights for a TAW of 525. Killed my first buck from the ground with that setup. Heart shot at 27 yards.

This year, I'm bumping up my game. I'll be shooting an Elite Ritual 30 @ 60# with a 29" DL. Gold Tip Hunter XT 300s @ 27", 100 gr. brass insert, 175 gr. tip weight, for a TAW of 565 and a FOC of 22.2%. This set up slings arrows that fly perfect, out to 50 yards. :) Of course, I'm not going to be taking any hunting shots at that distance. Hopefully inside 20 yards.

What does poor arrow flight look like? The arrow flexing in flight? Flying in a spiral path? I've made some headway but I'm not dialed in yet

U still on bareshaft? U should see any wibble wobble while it's flying on it's way....once it's tuned it should look like a lazer....watch the nock at target impact...if it's wobbling all over the arrow isn't hitting square. Arrow should drive in with very little nock wiggle

You might want to have someone get on a step stool and slo-mo video a few shots from behind you and directly in line with the target.

The type of target you are shooting into can also make the bare shaft or arrow look like its entering with a whipping action. The best idea is slo mo video of your shot with someone standing behind you as you shoot from above as @BTaylor suggested. Make sure you shoot at about 25 to 30 yards if you can with a safe back stop so there is enough arrow flight time to monitor the full flight of the arrow.

What are the chances lady Horn wants to film that tonight ? Lol

You'll know what bad arrow flight looks like when you shoot a bare shaft at 20 yards and watch it fly sideways to the target. If you shoot a fletched arrow the fletching will provide correction so you might not notice bad flight if your tune is slightly off but you will definitely see the arrow porpoising/spiraling to the target with a bad tune. Years ago I noticed that my arrows with 2" Blazers would spiral in flight but my other arrows with 4" vanes wouldn't so naturally I said Blazers suck because they don't fly well. I joke about it now at how ignorant I was to what was really going on. My bow was so out of tune that it took 4" of fletching to stabilize my arrow. Thank God I was shooting mechanicals back then because if I shot a fixed blade it would have flown like a boomerang!

Pretty sure all of my arrows have 2 inch blazers right now... Coincidence

I bought some 5mm easton axis today, brass inserts, 3 50gr up front, 3 with 75. They came in around 525 and 550. I am having good success moving my rest to put field points and practice heads together

There are no blazers in use at my house. I know they are highly popular but I can’t stand them. I’m either feathers or low profile vanes. I like the x vanes but right now I’m having tons of luck with the AAE hybrid. Especially with a 2* right helical four fletch
