Why don't yall 2TC?

I was getting no love from the turkeys this morning so after the hunt I did a practice climb out in the woods. I picked a tree that I could see choosing to hunt from and just climbed it. It took about 9 minutes to get to hunting height. I'm not sure how high I was but it felt right. I kept getting the tag end of the top tether caught under the foot tether when I advanced it and getting that unstuck slowed me down a little. I may have to tape the tag end to the main rope to stop this. This oak had a bit of lean and had another tree growing into it. It was good practice. Though no turkeys were harmed during the making of this episode, I did find several new to me spots that look very good for deer this fall.

@NMSbowhunter Found you a good tree for practicing.

I'll have to look around here for its twin. I'd burn too much gas driving over to try that one, lol.

It's inside the river levee so probably close to middle ways for both of us. There is a great big honey locust in bow range of it too.
Oh nice! A honey locust. That could be a prime spot. I have climbed some weird corkscrew like trees with my little Lone Wolf hand climber. I'll see if I can find a picture of some more interesting specimens.

Not sure if this will help, but I tie a loop on the tag end of my tether and linesman. I hook this back on the carabiner.

I need to do something like that. I ordered some smaller diameter rope yesterday to make a new top tether and I will look this over carefully before making it. This is the first time I have run into the problem of the tag ends getting caught. I happened 3 times on this climb. I rechecked the video of the climb, which I sort of considered slow. I actually only took about 7:15 seconds to actually do the climb. 1:45 seconds was spent hooking up the tethers before I took a step up. Not too bad, timewise.

Ah, that's one of the benefits of using yr rappel rope for the top tether. For me, it goes from the saddle attach point(hitch) right to my side pouch and out of the way. But, btaylors idea is good if yr just using a short tether!

I like the rappel rope for the top tether for the rappel out especially. The issue I run into with the rappel line is the delta link and knot always wanting to fall down and aggravate me. I've been meaning to ask, if aside from easy transition around limbs, is there any other real advantage to not just using a loop like on a short tether for the rappel line? Does it make pulling the rope out that much easier? I need to test this.

I bought a tether locker, seems to do the job well. My top tether is my rappel line. There is never any tag end in my way because it goes right into a dump pouch. When I stand up in my foot loop, I slide the tether locker back a few inches and slide my tether as high as I can get it. I grab the tether just below the locker and slide it up with to the delta link before transitioning my weight back to my tether.

I toss the tag end of the top tether over my right shoulder. I do this for 2tc as well as one sticking. It may or may not work for you.

The delta link is only to not have to run the entire line through the loop. I tested both and really could not tell a difference in ability to remove them from the tree. YMMV.

Oh, it was the short bit behind the knot left out for safety on the top tether that was what was getting under the loop of the foot tether, not the long tag end hanging down. I probably didn't describe what was happening very clearly. I plan to try the rappel rope with and without the delta link soon.
