Why don't yall 2TC?

Nice video. I had never thought about using webbing as that would further reduce the weight and packing size. Then again, I don't trust my sewing enough yet to use it as a lifeline. Do you protect the stitching in any way?

What I do find fascinating overall is that even though we're all tailoring this to our own preferences, we're also doing very similar things.

Bonus points to the no shirt/no shoes bubba cameo in the background.
We are using 138 stitching with box stitched and bar tacks. The Juki industrial does a good job of sinking the thread into the webbing, so the webbing will fray before the stit hing is touched. Same with our aiders.

Thanks!

Agree = slick system.
Am I correct, the webbing set up on your video is;
1- CGM 1” webbing 2TC kit
2- an additional separate webbing tether?
3- amsteel daisy chain back up tether
*saddle

My plan for this year is to still do my SRT/preset combo and 2TC but focus more on 2TC hunts. Last year was my first year saddle hunting, had alot of presets established but my best hunt was a random location I found. This year, I'll still SRT for morning hunts due to presets but my afternoon hunts will be 2TC wherever I think the best location is.
This is exactly my plan as well this season. I’m still dialing in my 2TC, right now I’m on a canyon IV rappel with a Malmut smart 2.0 tending a swabish. I have the nice beefy foot loop on a repurposed oplux 8 mm tether, and that part i feel is dialed in. i think I’ve decided the thigh strap is more trouble than it’s worth, at least in early season, so that has found a new life as a perfect camo SRT foot loop.…problem i had last weekend, the swabish was very tough to break to get the rappel going with the smart 2.0. reminder to never get lazy and toss the foot tether down before the rappel, always put it in your dump pouch! Learned to tie a michochoan, excited to try that tomorrow.

What secrets do you guys have to conserve energy while 2TCing?

I've been practicing the past few weekends, climbing to about 16'. My movements are getting more coordinated, but it's still exhausting. I'm an average sized guy. A little overweight, but I work out multiple times a week and am athletic. But my legs are jelly by the top, and my foot hurts from standing in the foot tether. I have to stop and rest multiple times during a climb.

Right now I won’t even try leaning trees.

Does your choice of foot tether make a difference? I'm using a 1" tubular webbing foot loop stuffed with pex tubing to keep it open, connected by friction hitch to HTP 10mm.
I’m only 3 climbs in. I decided to go this route rather than 1 stick, and picked up both a leg strap and footloop from @always89y. The foot loop was a last minute decision, but very glad i did it, as i now use this luxuriously wide footloop on an 8mm oplux tether, and that part is totally dialed in. I’m still optimizing my main tether/rappel rope, but I’m close to a huntable setup. (this is my goal for July). IThe thigh strap definitely makes it more comfy, but I’ve decided to retire it on most trees basketball size or smaller. Good news is that i’ve repurposed it as an SRT foot loop, so there‘s no regrets. My guess is that when it gets cold and i have the big lacrosse boots on, I’ll probably go back to the thigh strap, or maybe illl be good enough at the method that i won’t need to.

Wide footloops make all the difference in the world as far as comfort goes!

Tried 2TC last night for the first time. It was hot and humid out, so my 'sessions' were not very long. Used two 11mm ropes, each with ropeman's, and a foot tether made out of some tubular webbing I had leftover from an older project. It went alright. Seems like there is some getting used to the movements and practice required to get to that point.....but, I did make it up about 10 feet in the air before I ran into some limbs on my practice tree, and safely back down, so it does work. Will give it another shot at some point.

Hey guys. I’ve been trying to 2TC for a few days (probably 4 hours total practice). I am climbing a pretty good sized pin oak as my practice tree (it’s not the best, I know). I can’t seem to get the hang of it. Here’s a couple issues I’m having. 1) My foot is killing me! I’m using a swaider from EWO on my lower tether and it kills my foot while I’m standing on it. I’m wearing pretty heavy leather boots, and still.. 2) my foot keeps kicking out on me while adjusting my upper tether. I think maybe my lower tether and foot loop might be too long and this causing the kickout.. has anyone else figured out how to get around this? 3) moving my tethers up and getting them to snug the tree is TOUGH! I cannot seem to get a good rhythm on moving my tethers. What advice do you have on moving the tethers up the tree quickly (I think making this step fast will also help with the foot pain because I won’t be spending so much time with my weight on the swaider). 4) do you have any advice on how long your main tether should be? I can’t seem to figure out the best length on my main tether and how long my adjustable bridge should be..

What major breakthroughs did you guys have when learning this technique? What gear helped you progress? Is there a video that shows the ins-and-outs of this technique any better? I think I’m just super uncoordinated and everyone on YouTube makes this technique look super easy. So far I would say 2TC is NOT easy. It’s kicking my butt.. I really do want to figure it out though.

My gear.. 11mm Tethrd tether as main tether with ropeman, CGM leg loop on upper tether, 11mm Tethrd lineman’s as lower tether, EWO swaider prusik’ed to lower tether, Cruzr Archon saddle.

I usually put my tethers about 6 to 61/2 feet up the tree. The bottom tether goes about 6 inches under the main tether. I position my foot loop about 22 inches off the ground, where I can step up into it without straining. I clip my bridge into the main tether and adjust it where I can lean back with support with my feet on the ground. but upright. Once I have this set, I step up into the foot loop and dig my toe into the tree while simultaneously pushing down straight into the loop.

Grab the main tether or the tree, whichever is most natural and pull yourself up against the tree and bring you free foot over and around the tree for stability. You should now be upright with your center of gravity close to the tree and be balanced. You can now use both hands to advance the tether.

It also sounds like you may be trying to learn on too large a tree. I would start with one about basketball diameter and then once you have the method down, try more advanced trees. Also, I would suggest a wide foot loop like CGM (Custom Gear modifications) makes. You might also look into the thigh loop they sell also. I'm not affiliated with them; I just see that they make nice gear.

You can also make one pretty easy as well.

Here is a picture of my "heavy" 2TC setup. 11.4 mm ropes and one Ropeman.

Here is a still from a video I took of my climbing. I wish we had a way to post videos on the site and not have to go through Youtube or another video hosting site. It shows the step up move ready to advance the tether.
