BassboysLLP's ultimate platform

Thanks!

That helps a lot, and if you were to make a kit (please) would it contain all parts except the seat?
Ok things have slowed down here after the holiday. I have some time available to start figuring out a kit for this seat. I could make it with either a versa button or the rope cleat but fair warning, the cleat is an expensive part.

Before I get started on this however, how many of you guys actually need one.

(@SouthMsBowhunter, either way I'll work something out for you if you want)

Where are you going to get the seats?

Lol I have no idea where people will get them, but if they already have a seat, I can help with the rest.

I have been busting me arse trying to find a way to get these seats for you guys.

I'm not done looking yet. I just don't know how I can do without buying a mold and I don't know if we can do that without bigger quantities. I have something else I'm working on but I still haven't figured out all the logistics.

Ernie,

Yes, please put me down for a kit. Is the rope cleat a better option than the versa button?

Honestly I don't know. I haven't had a chance to hunt with the rope cleat yet. In my mind it's better and should be quieter since there is no buckle involved, but I haven't had time to really test it out. One thing I can tell you is ours more expensive. The cleat was like 35$ and 1/4" amsteel is over $1.00 a foot (I think I have around 10 feet on this one to allow for two wraps). Vs the versa button which is $5 and the lone wolf strap which is $10 and I think lone wolf ships for 5$

Which bracket do you guys prefer? I snapped the bracket I was using and replaced it with one off a LW stick. I want something beefier.

I think the rope will determine this more then the cleat. In all reality a cam cleat works the same as a Ropeman/Kong Duck so we know they are effective. However, I am not sure Amsteel is best rope to pair with a cleat/ropeman as it crushes down. I'm my mind that may cause a little slip? I would have no problem hunting with either a versa button/rope mod or a cam cleat as I feel both will work if you press the platform down after securing it. I prefer a versa and strap but that is just my personal preference.

I agree with Dave. I tested some amsteel on a kong duck in my garage and just with a quick testing I could see the fibers were crushed and discolored. It is probably related to why they don't recommend knotting amsteel as well.

Your absolutely right which is why I used a much larger amsteel than was needed for strength. I wanted to make sure there was enough meat for the cleat.

Yep. For small quantities, investment casting is the way to go, but piece part cost is higher.

Hey Erniepower, I know investment casting and sand casting are very similar I'm wondering why the investment casting is the way to go. Just a simple answer is fine as I am just thinking about trying to cast a platform using a sand casting. It would be a pretty big undertaking for me as I'm not really set up for it.

You know what, based on some reading, investment casting might not be best based on the size we are talking. Sand casting Matty be more appropriate. We do investment casting rather than injection molding for my work here but it's for smaller more exact parts.

I'm scheduling a meeting with a local foundry to learn more.

I'm in when you guys do the pre sale on seats for these.

I haven't made the jump to a platform yet. I'm hoping you guys can cast one and I'll be interested in what the wild edge guys put out as well. A copy of BassboysLLP's platform would be hard to beat!

We actually did sand casting with a foam model back in high school metal shop. We cut the foam with a tool that was nothing more than a wire tied tight between two points hooked to a d size battery to make it hot. Glue pieces together as needed. Watched a few you tube videos showing the diy process, pretty simple but think I'll just wait to see what you come up with.
