Live from the tree 2017 version

Had an owl nest in a hollow tree in my yard every year until it got too unsafe and I had to cut it down. You could make a little screach sound and 2-3 lil heads would pop out the hole. Lol
They eat snakes too, so they were good to have around. When ever I'd kill a snake in the yard, I'd hang it on a branch. They would take care of the rest over night. No sense feeding the ants.

That is awesome! Would be great for the kids to see. I knew of one nesting in an old furnace in a state park where I grew up. I went to see it once and those babies were cute and fuzzy :D

Been about 7 years since I lived there. Back yard was palmetto bottom land. Use to get home from work an go run my rabbit dogs. Cook on the back porch and listen to them run. Ahhhh, the good old bachelor days! Lol

I don't know who I heard say it but it stuck in my mind.
Those were the good ole days and I hope and pray I never have to live through them again.

Some guys had poker night. We had steak night on Fridays. Grill steaks and shoot bows, which usually meant I was working on my buddies bows in the shed while everyone had fun.

Bambi under my tree tonight. Mama and sister are just a little out of frame. Always fun to watch.

Great sit and a perfect wind on state land yesterday.

Had a yearling doe and a button buck come in around 6:30 last night. They came out of the bedding area more or less where I expected them too. Both came within 20 yards too feed right next to my tree to eat nuts that had been dropping. I could have taken either, but they looked really small and it just didn’t feel right. Also got to watch 5 coons play and feed and climb trees. Waited until I thought they were gone which it was pretty much dark then and when I was packing up one of them blew me out big time. I’m thinking it was the button as it was some of the most pathetic snorting I have ever heard from a deer lol. Unfortunately it went on for a good minute or two. Probably won’t come back to this spot until closer to November.

It’s a mile hike into this location so it was a good trial run for all my mobile gear. I could have gotten away with less gear but had to bring the backpack to pack my jacket because it was raining when I got out there.

Was hoping to put eyes on a buck but no such luck. I’m thinking as they get more pressure closer to the access more deer will get pushed into the bedding area and if the does stick around the bucks should come cruising.

FYI that was about 25ft up at head height and I only used one etrier stirrup at the bottom. Any higher and I wouldn’t have been able to shoot through some of the surrounding branches. I will probably modify my etriers again and shorten the length slightly. I could have done two at the bottom but because the stirrup was long enough only used one of them.

Also the XOP platform is super comfy. Love it.

Saw 6 does tonight, but the wind was all wrong, they skirted 70yrds around me. Sorry I couldn't get 5 more points for team 4. Hopefully I can get it done tomorrow morning in the rain.

Nothing out there tonight for me. Did a mobile hunt with the new red squirrel aider system and it worked great. Don't know why I did this though because it was hot and humid. I am off tomorrow and I'm going to take the kayak out in the morning to check out a few spots. Then a hunt in the afternoon :D

Did a short sit this morning, wind was a little screwy, changed directions a bunch of times, guess I'm not all that scent free, lol. Thought I saw a few signs of movement pretty far off, flashes of white, but then I decided I'm going mad and it was nothing, who knows maybe I am losing it!

Thermacell broke, it is hot, pouring sweat and there are so many mosquitoes that I am tethered to the tree so there don't carry me away.... but at least I am hunting!

I sat yesterday morning, the deer were moving early just not past me :) I was planning on an afternoon sit, but it was too hot and humid for me. I like to keep the family happy this early in the season so I can piss them off later :) I find it super hard to keep the wife happy during deer season! Little does she understand that I would hunt everyday and I don't because I do not want her to think that I prefer the comfort of a tree over her ;)

Hopefully this weekend we can get team 7 on the board!!

Lol I don't mind a few weeks of an annoyed wife but a few months is tough. I do have a buddy coming up in Nov for a long weekend so that will be the end of the misery for my wife! I really do not rifle hunt, just bow unless I need some meat for the freezer or a big boy shows up on the farm!

Enjoying living vicariously through you all posting here. My season won't start until later this month. I'm 0-2 on opening days. Lost my lease that was an hour from my house on JULY 31 when property sold and new owners never replied to calls and e-mails. The guy whose name was on the lease had been contracted for over 20 years. Fortunately I have a lease in VA and this weekend is opener but schedule isn't cooperating and weather looks to be bad from Nate. Was going to take a couple days off next week but now I am scheduled for a kidney stone removal Thursday. NOT how I planned this year to go. The good news is I have 150 hours of unused vacation so my rut hunting should be frequent at least.
