Great sit and a perfect wind on state land yesterday.
Had a yearling doe and a button buck come in around 6:30 last night. They came out of the bedding area more or less where I expected them too. Both came within 20 yards too feed right next to my tree to eat nuts that had been dropping. I could have taken either, but they looked really small and it just didn’t feel right. Also got to watch 5 coons play and feed and climb trees. Waited until I thought they were gone which it was pretty much dark then and when I was packing up one of them blew me out big time. I’m thinking it was the button as it was some of the most pathetic snorting I have ever heard from a deer lol. Unfortunately it went on for a good minute or two. Probably won’t come back to this spot until closer to November.
It’s a mile hike into this location so it was a good trial run for all my mobile gear. I could have gotten away with less gear but had to bring the backpack to pack my jacket because it was raining when I got out there.
Was hoping to put eyes on a buck but no such luck. I’m thinking as they get more pressure closer to the access more deer will get pushed into the bedding area and if the does stick around the bucks should come cruising.
And because I know guys like to see pictures of saddle setups:
