These look great. I’m going to try and make one like this. I currently own a jx3 hybrid and never hung in a real saddle. I’m 6’4” and 265. Do you feel these dimensions would work for me or do you think I should upsize it? I’d like to take measurements on myself to fit but since I’ve never hung in one I’m not even really sure where it should be sitting. My mesh should arrive in a couple of days but I have all other materials on hand waiting.

Now seeing the phantom measurements i think you will be fine with my measurements, i have now spent a good few weeks hanging in the first one and will say i find it very nice indeed.
i have messed about with bridge lengths and pressure channels and feel i have it bang on, i can not get it to ride up or move in any position, I have done 4 hour stints without pressure on my legs and I don't know what i could do to make it comfier, the size of the saddle is enough to cover most sizes and the length of the bridge loops combined i feel helps no end regarding hip pinch so I really want people to try this for feedback, regards wayne

you can also see the linemans loop how it wants to sit in that position, I used a 3 core cable with protected outer and heat shrunk over it and left enough both ends to sew through to hold the position

I’ve got everything ready to do this build except my mesh. Pretty hard to get started without it. I notice that you didn’t put grosgrain on the ends of the mesh. Was there any particular reason for doing this? Thanks.

Since the mesh had a raw edge, it can cause it to start fraying. The grosgrain helps prevent it.

You can also roll the edge, and sew it, like hemming pants.

I understand that. I see you hemmed the ends and put grosgrain on long sides. I was just curious if there was a specific reason you hemmed the ends instead of binding them with grosgrain.

my reasoning was when it is folded a couple of times it becomes really strong and tough, i was hoping this would be enough to not let it collapse and fold up, also stronger if using the linesman rubbing up and down. I double folded so the cut edge is buried and gave a few runs of stitching
it does a great job on all accounts, the grosgrain edging is just a nice soft touch around the upper and lower so it's not rough, the strength is in the webbing, if you decide to use 7/16 delrin balls in the loops put them just close enough to touch when the fold over so it traps the loops of the bridge, also on the first one i did a double stitch a small distance apart you can see this in the picture above, this did not help the loop collapse at first but now it has softened up works well but I would suggest only one row of stitching the other two work far better with one row, regards wayne

Thanks for the reply. My mesh should be showing up by tomorrow and I’ll be starting this.

good luck anything your not sure of just ask, regards wayne
You stated you have also made the Kestrel Clone. Would you consider one slightly easier than the other? As soon as I get my machine up and running I’ll be looking to do both; however, with limited experience I’d like to start with something less cumbersome if possible. Thanks.

Phantom clone will be easier to duplicate based solely on the fact that it's a one panel piece design.

Yes

by far the phantom style saddle is the easiest to make, the nature of the kestrel clone it’s 4 pieces all to match up then edge, just so you know how I came to my sizing I literally took the two half moon shapes of the kestrel clone and put them together to get the shape both styles are very comfortable I have gone a little over size from what the phantom actually is but I had not seen one and the measurements had not been disclosed.
I feel happy in my size the 13” depth is enough to fit round the waist but not too high
And not to low, it does not give pressure points anywhere.
i like how the linesman works and I did slightly longer bridge loops and feel this with the saddle length does not give any hip pinch in any way, regards Wayne
Ps look at my threads for the kestrel clone under meet Betsy and you can see how I did that
final piece to complete the saddles
