5.5lb climbing, platforming, & descending package - Solo Scout

Weight is negligible since I only have it on for about 12 seconds. Goes something like this...

1. Ride up to hunting location on R1200R.
2. Initiate vertical thrust on jetpack until optimum altitude is achieved.
3. Jettison pack by unclipping AustriAlpin belt buckle and jetpack returns to R1200R via auto-glide homing.
4. Deploy biodegradable ram-air parachute and navigate to pre-selected tree. **Side note - you can really see what the thermals are doing from up there!
5. Remove tether/rappel rope from water bottle pouch and ready using lasso configuration.
6. Detach parachute when Crocs are 5' above target tree.
7. Lasso crown of trunk and brace for bumpy ride to desired hunting height.
8. Grin as deer walk the unadulterated woods below without any clue you're even there.

I was thinking bout using da green goblin flyer! That way I can use it as a platform too

are you still using this method regularly and how are you liking it after trying it for a while @Red Beard
I have been using it over my DRT setup, especially in the a.m. I really like it,it is quiet and i feel like i am still improving a little bit at it. I climbed maybe 20 to 30 times total. I tied webbing aiders on my platform, not as neat as redbeards setup. If i come to think of it my whole setup is not as neat and streamlined. But it works pretty well for me. I do haul a lot more stuff into the woods. This is still a lot better than my climber was.

Unfortunately, I really got tired of carrying so little. I missed the clank of my Bone Collector hang on and so I switched back to that and a 46lb backpack. I attach four Rivers Edge Big Foot Grip Sticks (4lbs apiece) to the outside of the pack horizontally so they clear a nice wide path for my exit at the end of the hunt. Boy am I glad that I went back to this setup cause I feel a lot more... solid, going in now.

Hehee! Honestly Jay, climbing with a Solo is a great method and I think it has a place for folks who want to go into the woods with a super-light setup. However, tinkerers gotta tink... and after knocking out the work horse, I focused almost exclusively on 2TC. That is my method of choice now.

What is a work horse and what is 2TC?

Thanks for replying with USEFUL information. :confounded:
I apologize buddy. I thought you were joking!

For the work horse, go back to post 45 in this thread.

For 2TC, take a look at the Ultra Light Climbing method 2.0 thread.

For a while I fancied myself a Red Beard wanna be. I bought the solo scout from out on a limb and the original work horse from the man, Red Beard , himself. Both quality kit for sure!

After my first few attempts I realized a few things:

1) My mind fancies myself as a young, flexible, thin, tree ninja.

2) My body disabused me of that erroneous notion and realigned me with my reality. I am an older, heavy and arthritic hunter. Better suited for sticks or Stepps with short step distance.

If I were younger, slim and in good shape, I’d keep all this gear and work on it. Alas, I am not. I need put up the scout solo and work horse up on the classifieds. They are good kit for the young and nimble. But for me, I am going to have to put these up on classifieds. But not until at least after tonight’s hunt with Stepps and a ridge runner.

For #2, did you space your aider steps appropriately for your particular gait? With the way the work horse was designed, you could reposition them anywhere on the daisy.

I have refined my system for my 63 year old beat up body not super light but very secure it consists of a Chippewa Wedge Loc Falcon,30' KMXIII 7/16", Roperunner, foot ascender and a carbon fiber push up stick of my own design. I transport all but the platform in a riot sling pack. I made up a strap using a New Tribe recliner strap to carry the Falcon. While I have tried just about everything excluding a jet pack or levitation device I keep returning to this system. Completely attached throughout climb, hunt and descent. No need for additional tether , tether adjustment device and can bail out at anytime. I am enjoying the Tengu/ Petzl Podium combo more each time I use it.

The gait was fine. I just don’t think I am able to comfortably use the setup and definitely I am not confident. Just not for me.

I’ve already had two inquiries, so I am sure the kit will find a good home.

I’ve been using the solo scout 1-stick climbing for my last few hunts and I’m really liking it.

One refinement I made to the system was to put a 12” nite ize gear tie on my tether just before the loop you wrap around the tree. I use this gear tie to hold the solo scout up while I fasten the strap around the tree. That way I can swing to the left of the platform and use both hands to do the strap and not have to keep tension on the strap all the time.
