Public land trail cameras

I think everyone should show your stuff you paid the money for and you put the effort into setting with respect. If you didnt pay for it or set it leave it alone. I've had stuff stole and it's made me so upset I would be scared of what I would do to someone if I caught them when I have a weapon(always have pistol or bow), bc I am not that type of person.

If I see a camera on public land before I walk in front of it and I'm interested in checking out what its pointing at, I typically just hang my hat over it while I look around. That keeps my image off the card and hopefully doesn't get anyone fired up that I was interloping on "their" setup. Its a harmless way to avoid getting my image captured. That said, that's as much interaction as I'll have with anyone else's property of value left on public land. That excludes "lost" flagging tape and other forms of trash (i.e. candy wrappers, beer cans, various drink bottles, etc.) left strewn through the woods.

i stumbled on one when scouting today. it was actually on the ground, looked like the (dead) tree it was bungy corded too had been taken out by another tree... anyhow, i rotated the log on the ground to turn back to the direction i think it's owner wanted it to be. If anyone on here has a mineral plot out by tridelphia reservoir, no comment on the legality of such, but you may want to go rehang your camera. It likely has a few pictures on it of me sweating my arse off in a caps tshirt.

I used to hang them up 10' at an angle, then realized there's so much public land in NH they never get messed with - plus I'm not exactly leaving them near the trailheads.
Like many people, I'm sure, I've found a bunch of cameras on publicly accessible land - most don't even have locks. I don't F with them, and wave if the camera sees me first.
I do place locks on mine, but even when I get other hunters on them, they're just ignorantly walking by. Doesn't really surprise me since I've had a bunch of hunters walk basically under my tree and never notice me while hunting - even when I used sticks at ground level and a guy passed within 10'.
The only time I got ticked off about a camera was when I set tacks in a tree - I only tack the tree I'm climbing so I can find it in the morning. The tacks were gone and there was a camera less than 20yds away. Ticked, but I still left it undisturbed.

I wish I was a headlight on a north-bound train

I've had some legal cameras / cards stolen on public property and nothing pisses me off more. You can bet if I found someone messing with my gear one of us would be leaving the woods in worse shape then when we entered. Nothing worse than thieves, taking stuff others have worked hard to get and that includes checking their SD cards, they put the time in to scout that location. Be a decent human, if it doesn't belong to you don't touch it. If you find a Violation report it.

Won’t have to worry about it much longer in Missouri and some other states that are making them illegal. Most of Missouri’s conservation lands now don’t allow them anymore! Frickn government gets involved in everything.

Does anyone else try to hide their cameras to go on public land??

yep, hang'em high, point'em down, and i do a sponge paint job to match typical hardwood tree bark in these parts

looks good what you did, around here though black bear would consider that a bee hive and try to eat it!
