Tethrd One Stick Gen 3's - Season review so far

7/64” amsteel. The factory ropes suck and seem to wear fast.

I just purchased a 3-step G-C-ONE Aider from Backwoods Mobile Gear, https://www.backwoodsmobilegear.com/shop-online/gc-one. I expect to easily get 20+ feet with 3 sticks.

I'm hoping this will replace my 1-stick climbing system. I still wish they would make a platform for the Tethrd One Sticks.

I’m running the same aider. If I just use it on the bottom step, I’ll get 17ft if I stretch the steps way out. You can definitely get 20 if it’s used on another step.

I'm a fan, I've been a critic, but this design is worth a little risk to push the boundary imo. I'm probably around 15-20 climbs in mine and no issues to speak of. The oem ropes are definitely generic dynemma but they are holding up fine just some insignificant fuzzing.

Great to hear. Any issues descending in the dark with this aider? I struggled descending with the Amsteel aiders as they were difficult for my boot to find in the dark. I think they were to light and flimsy.

No issues at all. Steps are much easier to find than Amsteel.

I have a 3 step on my EWO one stick I use no problem, but on this 3 step BWO aider on the Tethrd stick, I only feel comfortable using it on the first stick. I think the difference is the EWO standoffs get it way out from the tree where on the Tethrd One’s it hangs close to the trunk and not as easy to get my size 12’s in.

I use 4 Tethrd One sticks and the the 3 step BWO aider on the first stick only if so need the extra height.

Might take some practice. I thought the aider was very unstable and wanted to twist to the side. I since went with the single step version that is adjustable. It seems pretty decent.

I haven't felt the need to swap out the factory ropes. I simply wrap them around the cleat with no follow up knot, just tuck it behind and pull it down. Seems to hold my heavy butt up with out any slipping what-so-ever.

Like mentioned, I am noticing a bit of wear, but nothing to make me want to swap out immediately. Probably for next year I'll look into something aftermarket if I decide to keep them. I like the idea of weighted tip ropes...but the OEM ropes seem to get around rough bark trees without snagging and they seem to be a good length to wrap and cleat when packing up after every hunt.

I ordered the GC One from BWO but have been using my Ultimaider in the meantime and think it’sa solid option if you are only going to use it on one step. The combination of the tubular webbing with whatever they put inside to stiffen the step makes it easy to get into and comfortable on your foot. I think the little bit of weight that the buckles have help keep it steadier when trying to get your foot in descending too.

Glad to hear the avant-guard with Gen 3 sticks are not having issues or regretting the purchase at this point. As I’ve said before, I really do hope they succeed.

Still unwilling to put my own money down for a set, but if folks finish out their seasons without any issues, I’ll have a lot more confidence that the Gen 3 sticks will be trouble-free.

These reviews are super interesting. I will probably hold off for now but good to have the info. Also, I still really want to see latitude and cruzr’s offerings.

Like I said to start, I've never had a good thing to say about Tethrd. I also jumped on the bashing bandwagons with the Predator issues and the gen1 and gen2 one stick issues. I'm not sure what made me even consider trying the Gen3's....probably because in the back of my mind I figured they'd be sold out quickly and if I didn't like them there'd be several fanboys that would be willing to pay full price for the turnover. Still tempted by a 1lb stick probably....lured by then rope cleat...and lured by how they connect for packing without any extra straps needed. Climbing with them has made me faster and quieter. I'm just curious on their overall durability. How long will they handle how rough I am on equipment? My beast sticks, with the exception of a bent standoff which was replaced within a couple of days, have been very durable.

I took the next step and stealth stripped the Gen3's yesterday...I also stealth stripped my beast sticks and wrapped those steps to cushion my hands. I've been gunshy about using my beast sticks since I tore my finger open on a step doing a final practice climb the night before our bow opener. 4 stitches right where my finger meets my hand. Shouldn't have to worry about that now.

I'm in the same boat. I love my Beast Sticks and daisy chained Amsteel ropes. But carrying 4, with my saddle, for long treks made the 1 lb. Tethrd sticks appealing. I have not got them in yet, but already purchased the Amsteel ropes and Backwoods Mobile Gear G-C-ONE Aider. I should get 20 feet with 3 sticks at about 4 lbs. vs 8 lbs with my 4 Beast Sticks. Also, the Tethrd One Stick packs better, tighter and lower profile, whch is also helpful.

See, that's where I actually disagree. My Beast Sticks, when strapped to my pack, have a much tighter profile than the Ones. My full length Beast Sticks, stacked 4 deep, perfectly shroud my KUIU Pack for a very low profile and even tension setup. The one thing I actually loath, and may be the deal breaker for me on the One sticks, is the fact that they're abstract and too short when stacked up. I can't get the good bookend type of cinch down with the frame of my pack that I can with the Beast sticks.
