Tethrd One Stick Gen 3's - Season review so far

I have a theory on this.

From reading the message boards and facebooks, failure points and issues about these sticks had to do with the 'glue' failing and 'popping/rocking' of the steps at the interface of the tubes. I believe they may coated the tubes first, before assembly of the steps onto the tubes. This coating could have been the cause of the glue failure, also could have contributed to the 'popping', The engineering could have called for bare metal on bare metal...and coating the tubes after assembly may have not been possible...and the shrink wrap could be done before assembly. Or I'm just over thinking it. Marketing for the Gen3's say for sound suppression...but I don't think they help in that regard a bit. They're noisy and need wraps.

I wonder why they wrap them then?

The wrap is purely cosmetic and serves no purpose other than for looks.

My guess is that it was done to cover the scratches the tubes experienced when they tested the sticks. Seems like most people, myself included before I returned them, had sticks returned after testing that were scratched up pretty good.

Are you guys running three of these sticks or four? I have been using four beast sticks but I only bought three of the One sticks so far. Debating if I need to grab a fourth stick? I typically run a two step staider on the bottom stick and maybe a single step aider on my second stick. As I’m typing this, I think I know the answer. I’m gonna want the fourth stick and since the weigh so little, might as well have it.

I run 4 and actually ordered a 5th Friday in case I want to go aiderless. They are so easy to carry I figured what’s one more.

I have five as well but haven’t used all five yet. Currently I use four with a two aider on the bottom and single step aiders on the other three. I just got my BW mobile GC-One in that I’ll be testing today and if all goes well, possibly going to three sticks.

All Sticks came like that including the GEN1 sticks, they didn’t start testing till the Gen2 recall.
It’s just to cover the shiny titanium.
I removed the plastic from the tube before I stealth strip them, it’s hold to the tube better and doesn’t move like it would with that plastic shrink wrap on the tube.

I have 6 been using 5. Also have a BWM single step adjustable GCone aider I will need to practice a bit more with. Then I can drop it down to 3 or 4 instead of 5 or 6.

I ordered the 3 step GC-One, it is due in tomorrow. Let us know what you think of yours. I have read that I should be able to get 18 - 20 feet with using the aider on the first step and then 2 more sticks. I removed the Amsteel 1-step aiders from my Beast Sticks and am about to remove the cable aider, they just do not work when descending in the dark.

it was also advertised/intended to deaden noise.
  • included vinyl sound tube barrier
That's a good improvement what you're doing, imo.

I agree with Kayl... hard not to order. For those wanting a lighter option than beast sticks... are these the best option or should the shaker also be considered?

I’m ridiculously high with this aider and four sticks! I’m almost 25’ as I just about maxed out my pull up rope. I think I’m higher than I’ve ever been in a saddle. I forgot my rappel kit so climbing down should be fun…

Good to see the Gen 3 holding up. Guess I’m lucky still rolling with my Gen 1. On the second season & about 80 climbs without a problem. I ditched the stock rope for 7/64 amsteel, cut all the stacking pins off (I absolutely hated that design), & stealth stripped & paracord wrapped them. The weight & compact profile is awesome .
