MR PopUp or Eberlestock MainFrame? Or budget option?

the 38 fits fanatic bibs and jacket just fine with room to spare for snacks and all the othe crap i dont really need to carry around! #teamPU38 (until the new versions come out)

The Kuiu Pro suspension is good, and it's a light system overall and I like the pack design ok. For whatever reason my Kifaru system was best at minimizing felt weight on the whole so I'm staying with that, but the Pro 3600 was attractive with certain sets. I'd have kept mine, but my brother borrowed it and was complementary of it which is unusual. So, to him it goes.

Do you really need a pop up with a .5? I have a .5 coming and my plan was to ditch a big pack and just use the .5 and maybe cinch a small pack on its shelf.
 
not a budget option but it looks like the Exo K4 is going to launch soon, be at a few shows, and then be available for purchase in march. with how much everyone raves about the k3 and how transparent/long term they are with their development and testing process... i'm pretty excited to see what it's like. release date lines up with when i can start spending money again hopefully lol

I just finally upgraded to the K3 this year and love it. I killed and packed out 2 bull elk and a bighorn sheep with it this year. It might be a year or two before i can afford the next upgrade

good snakehead fishing by you. Not a lot of guys hit those spots. paint branch by the bolero and all up and down right there. some big girls in there once May rolls around. i dunno if you fish much but you can shoot em too. Mostly just "picnic folks" down there and they dont mind u bowfishing. Lots of catfish too but i wont eat them if you paid me.

i went a little farther down to the anacostia and the cops saw me and said
"if you see any dead bodies going downstream let em float to DC"

Good to know thank you, I've tried for them a bit, and would love to eat one. I'll eat blue catfish from clean waters as long as they are under 24-28 inches, I have an older hobie outback and take it down to mattawoman creek a decent amount and have eaten a few from there, but channels go back and anything from this area that isn't stocked trout goes back too, will return after season to some fishing for sure, but I'm not much better at that than hunting lol. Seen snakehead at mattawoman personally but haven't been able to hook up yet, and saw them in my local pond (Lake Artemesia, people don't believe me but I saw a pair with a fry ball two years ago), so I'll get one sooner or later. If I do ever ",upgrade" my bow I'm planning to convert the cruzer to a bow fishing bow, it already has a whisker biscuit so I think all I need is the reel/line/arrow.

I've also kayaked on the anacostia, it's pretty gross between bladensburg and the national arboretum, likely won't return, I don't want my kayak to melt out from under me.

Finally, I need to get back out on the bay. I have a few rockfish trolling setups, but it's been difficult finding a day where the weather is good enough for kayaking out there and I'm not working. That and the rockfish are struggling so I haven't eaten any in a few years.

Considering your personal setup:
1328cuin Wolf Pack = 2lb 4oz (advertised)
LWCG shoulder straps and waist belt = 13.6 oz
Total = 3lb 1.6oz.

A Kuiu carbon finer frame weighs only 11oz:
4000cuin Kuiu Pro LT 4000 full kit = 3lb 13.9oz

Kuiu has load lift
Kuiu has lumbar pad
Kuiu has cinching belt
Kuiu can be disconnected from stand (no straps and belts hanging in the wind)
etc...

So, for the penalty of a standard can of coke, there's an upside.

Of course the Popup 28 is 5lbs (4.9 for the new Popup30). I don't notice the extra (little over a) pound. In fact it carries lighter, imo. It's an easy system. And has it's upside.

I've used the .5 with:

1.) LWCG shoulder straps and waist belt and 14L assault pack
2.) LWCG shoulder straps and waist belt with added lumbar pad and 14L assault pack
3.) Frame pack suspension and pack (Kiafru, Kuiu, Mystery Ranch).

Option 2 was pretty good, but I'm finding option 3 better. If option 1 was very good I wouldn't have explored options 2 and 3.

All in all, the extra weight you have in your .75 pretty much negates the weight "penalty" of the added frame pack in my .5 set.

To each his/her own.

Good decision. Love TX5, but that wasn't a great design, imo. Frame pack companies have a bit more experience there (not that they've all got it figured). I think TX5's QC with a smarter design would be great.

What is your current setup?

Sorry for derailing this thread one last post n I'm done I promise...
I believe they're in that lake. It's surrounded by creeks full of em. Focus on late may through July and keep checking under bridges or shady spots. They are extremely camouflaged when they're not lit up/excited, but look for long skinny rocks laying on the edge of moving water. Or wait at each hole for 20 min and youll see em come up and take a breath. They can spook pretty easy. If you can't get em to bite on a white swim bait or chatterbait find some crawdads under a rock and pitch one at em. Or the little chub work good too. Nothing beats a crawdad tho if you don't mind live bait fishin. I throw a lot of the hook n line caught fish back. I dont think theyre hurting the ecosystem as much as some people say. Blue cats and largemouth are worse.

If you're ever in Ellicott city I live on the patapsco and they're piled up thick in there. Sometimes there will be 30 in one hole. Then the bow fishing and blow gun guys come through and clean it out. Lucky for snakeheads im pretty useless with a bow. If it's deep and slow enough ive shot them with my speargun tho.
 
The Kuiu Pro is the nicest most comfortable pack I’ve tried to date. It is a little much in the tree though. I’ll have to decide if lugging it around everywhere is worth it when I kill something. 39AF39FA-6A77-4724-B878-2879214525E1.jpeg

I don’t know what it is but we are out of snacks so I grabbed it lol. I’d kill a deer for a ham sammich right about now.
