MR PopUp or Eberlestock MainFrame? Or budget option?

Uncle Plebe is that you?

I'm pretty close to setting up a sugar daddy type website because of the enablers here. Looking to see if SaddleDaddy.com (dont click) domain is available....but based on what some people are into, it's probably taken.

but @Plebe we can talk offline...buddy! ;) :kissingheart:

lol. Just messing with you. I ordered 2 off Camofire to give as gifts. Heck of a deal.
Got a gray or camo one in L or XL you want to sell me? Might still try out the coyote.

Dammit what a bad change

Agreed…. Strap thru the water bottle pocket is the way to go.

Also…..Why are they always water bottle pockets? How about one water bottle pocket and a nice zipper pocket on the other side.

I don't have Skeletor sticks. Have you tried running them in pairs on each side of the pack?
I carry my skeletors horizontal on my popup 28 all 4, between the pack and the frame. My EDP sits on top of them and I slide my side straps through the EDP and snug them up. I pick up the pack and shake it and nothing moves.

Well I maybe the only one but I haven’t tried the pop up but I used a f1 mainframe and vapor 2500 pack and still do. It’s a good pack, you can adjust the pack straps on the frame to fit anyone. Used it for 2 saddle hunts but carry’s and packs up gear very well. Carried and elk out with it no problem and most of the trips were 100+ lbs. I might get a couple of the bat wings for it to try a different configuration but it’s nice being able to easily switch out bags on the frame or just using as a frame itself to strap a plate to and work out. I think the main reason I got the mainframe over the pop up was because the load rating was around 60lbs for the pop up?? Might be a little off on that but for deer that’s fine but elk I wanted a little more beef to the frame for the heavier loads.

I don't mind water bottle pockets, but them straps make it a PITA to try and reach back to get something out one-handed. I would of liked them running through like the previous model

The pop up 38 was a sweet little pack that I probably should have kept. The layout takes some getting use to but it does have nice features. I didn’t like how floppy the bag was. And if you have anything in the lid it makes getting into the bag a PITA, especially if your posts are up at all. I did get to try it out with a ton of weight but it didn’t seem to fit my hips well with even with about 20-30 lbs. For me, the Eber. M1 Frame fit like a glove. And I wanted so bad not to like that pack. I got it used and it’s beat up pretty bad lol. I’m going to be sure to to put some weight in my new Kuiu Pro pack when it comes in. If it doesn’t feel as nice as the m1 then I may have no choice but to stay with it. I really think packs are like saddles now wrt how they fit. You can buy one that is the right size, but if it doesn’t ride well, you’re gonna hate it packing a deer out. If you’re not planning on packing deer out, I see no reason to choose one pack over the other other than your own wants, likes and dislikes, on packing, pockets, and strap features. Every pack I have owned will carry my winter clothes and the few items I hunt with.

Some features I liked more than others but how they carry a deer is what I’ve been looking at the most. It’s been a minute I know you ended up getting a MR but was was the intent of your pack purchase? What did you want it for, and to do? @HuumanCreed your original post said for hauling deer. If you haven’t put a bunch of weight (60 lbs at least) and walked a mile with your MR PU I would do that and decide if it’s the pack for hauling meat like you originally intended. I highly recommend packing out after a total of one times of doing it! Haha

What do you want @BackSpasm ? Lol
That pop-up would have gobbled up the buck you just killed and asked for more. Including the head!

Seems like the lid was an issue for you.... the 28 doesn't have that issue and you can add the MR daypack lid to it for an expanded lid/volume function... best of both worlds....

Heheheh you will never be happy

Yea If I ever get another one I would definitely make the lid removable. I said that from the git-go! And I have been happily using the same saddle I made for two whole seasons now I'll have you know, and I tried almost 30 saddles. I have only tried 4 bags lol. I guess I may have to just make my own pack as well to be fully content. Tell me, does the bag ever quite down? That goretex type whatever they use is louder than a bag of chips. :tearsofjoy: Separate thought on the buck I killed. I do need to get some game bags or pillow cases next time. The garbage bag was not a pro move lol.

According to @kyler1945 it does quiet with time... I think he said that he wasn't concerned that a deer 50 yards away would hear him

I don't really do much rifling around in the pack body once I am set up, so the noise doesn't bother me much personally.

I have some game bags I got on amazon that I use but they are fairly bulky and I have thought about trying to find some lighter/more compact bags even though the ones I have work fine

If you pack deer out it will get bloody & need washing. That helps over time. My camo 28 is quieter than my green 38…. Most likely b/c the 28 has had more reps. My last packout was my first with the new MR game bags, big difference. One thing I want to change is add a buckle strap to the strap that’s on the game bag now. I hooked it over the popup handle support & it worked ok but pushed down on the load lifters, I’d rather clip under them & anchor to the poles. I guess you could girth hitch the entire bag onto the popup handle, but that would be a kinda pain to fill the bag with meat. Gonna give it some more thought.

My bag went through at least 15-20 rainstorms, a couple snows, at least a dozen pack outs, muddied bloodied, and washed in bathtub 5 times or so. By time I sold it, it was pretty quiet.

What bag you running with now?

What bag you running with now?

JX3 versa pack system, on following frames:

JX3 Hybrid with exo belt and shoulder harness(see separate thread for those modifications)

Exo K3 frame

Waldrop Pacseat with exo shoulder harness and (not yet but eventually) exo belt

Beast stand with exo harness

I’m probably going to sell the beast stand. I didn’t use it a single time this year. I gave it some run last season, and put the girlfriend in it for several hunts. But she can fit in a .5 or a hybrid, and I can’t justify holding a 600.00 stand I might use once or twice a season. If I’m in a tree now, it’s going to be in a hybrid. It’s the perfect dimensioned stand for me, and the way I have it modified, it’s deadly. It just isn’t comfortable enough(compared to hybrid) to get used to any significant degree.

All that said, the exo shoulder harness is most comfortable to me of anything I’ve tried. The belt is very comfortable as well. I spent some time, and figured out a way to use all this together. And in doing so, the popup became a repeat. I will miss it, as it really is the perfect pack for my style of whitetail hunting…if I didn’t use a hybrid. The K3 setup will do everything the popup could with a very slight weight and size penalty. But capable of hauling more comfortably. As soon as I can get back to Colorado all of my kifaru setup will be going on sale.

New goal is to fit all hunting camping and climbing gear into 4 small totes + hybrid + pacseat. If it doesn’t fit it’s getting sold.
