Anybody gone back to mobile stands?

I hate to admit it but the thought of a stand is entering my brain. There are some trees I want to hunt and can’t with a saddle but could with a stand (not climber). Just because of the specific direction I want to face, etc.

I don't understand the question? Why would you limit yourself to one style or one weapon of hunting??????? I have a crossbow, shotgun, muzzleloader and rifle for killing and plan on killing at least one deer with each weapon this season. I also have a ladder stand and lock on stands already in trees. I travel to almost every hunt with my saddle, pop up blinds, and climbing stand in the truck. I am there to kill deer, not puff my chest out because I killed a deer a certain way.

Seeing a lot of love for the .5, but any other ideas for fellers trying to avoid spending another half-a-grand on hunting gear?…

I’m definitely with ya there even though I have one. I actually ordered one last year and cancelled it because it sucked so much to spend that much on a stand. So I just sold stuff I didn’t use to help cover the cost. Rn it’s tough to get a good stand in my opinion. Hawks I’d probably pass on if you use it hard. Millennium m-7 might be a good option. Or the Novix stuff but they recently raised their prices. Could always find a used stand. I believe there is a .5 in the classified for 450$ if it’s still their. Or even a used Novix or something

Though, if it still has a 225lb weight rating, that might exclude some folks.

Same reason I never tried a Timbertall Baby Brute Lite back in the day.

Cuts it a bit close for me.
Happy I saw the weight rating, I was looking at one and didn't even think it wasn't for big boys.

I just moved back to the SE last Nov. Bought a Novix Echo for a mobile setup and a saddle rig. Hadn’t hunted in a lock-on in probably 15+ years? I’m 100% more comfortable in a saddle than a lock on. So much so that even with average sized feet, I traded the Echo for a Vanish Evo because I wanted a little more foot room when looking away from the tree.

But I’m with @Loopwing . Why would you pigeon hole yourself to one method? I’ve got a climber, lock-on, saddle, ground blinds, turkey chairs, pop-ups, tower stands, ladder stands…Variety is the spice of life!

I run an old Loc-on limit with stick caddies and 4 modded out muddy pros. That's a good rig.

I also run a helo with 3 cut down and drilled API sticks that each has a 2 step aider.

I don't actually own a saddle right now that I didn't sew myself but I do have a couple from TX5 on the way. I am not dogmatic about my methods. But I will say, I have found more comfort in a saddle than a stand for short sits. But I sure feel better after an all day sit in a stand VS in a saddle. I do see the value in running a saddle in conjunction with a stand and have tried it many times. Right now I'm just using a rock climbing harness but I'll switch back to a saddle when these ones arrive and pretty much will always use them with a stand.

My back is screwed up in a way that saddle hunting feels good, and tree stand sitting Feels bad. The reality is that saddlehunting effectively takes a lot more work to get any good hunting and killing deer with it. (Dan E and the THP guys have put in the time) i think once these skills are mastered, It has some advantages. But, if you’re new to mobile bowhunting and don’t have time/ability to invest many hours in the offseason, plus at least 1 season blowing shots, the newer mobile stands might be the way. most of the trick to mobile hunting is not weight, but effective, effortless, motion efficient, and quiet packing, deploying, climbing, setting the gear required to get elevated. If the LWCG have solved this with th 0.5, then, I’d probably buy the whole integrated system from LWCG, the sticks, the .5, and the pack, and be done. (And a good harness/linesman). Then for me and my back issues, Since i already have a saddle and like to SRT preset when i can, I’ll use it in hybrid mode like many here are doing.

I hardly ever wear a full body harness anymore. I am usually wearing my saddle in ever stand (Ladder, climber, loc on) I hunt out of. It is just more comfortable.

Last year I hunted out of my buddies lock on stands one afternoon. I sat down for the first 5 minutes. After that, I had so much non-shooter traffic I "saddle, leaner" hunted the last 4 hours. It was not my farm all I saw was does and no bucks over 8 pts. He has strict rules in that farm. I could have shot the 8, but I would not have been invited back.
Just because you are in a ladder, climber, lock on doesn't mean you have to sit down.
