Help me pick a different arrow

while i agree, im not looking for a crappy arrow...i know i can shoot something cheaper than the FMJs without sacrificing quality...

AMEN

lots of good deals on arrows that most would agree perform better than FMJs.

if all the arrow setups mentioned in the thread are crappy...i hope you're shooting Bishop FOC King arrows with Bishop Heads @Will Harris :sunglasses:

I’m using gold tip kinetics. You can add some TAW without messing with your broadhead or adding tuning weights. FOC might not be as good though.

yeah right. just saying cut corners somewhere other than arrows. if i have something that's killin, i'll try to save money elsewhere. if its killin for you, stick with it and save money on beer.

For cost effective arrows it’s really hard to beat Axis. You may have to cut from both ends but they are solid. Black Eagle is another good choice. I would suggest a nock collar or bushing nock with the rampage but that’s easy.
Or, hop on Camofire right now and buy some of the bloodsport arrows on there right now.
I don’t think I’ll ever shoot FMJs again, too much bending. Agree Axis is a great all around and it’s what Im back to shooting again. Sometime might have some fun and build Sonics.

Ive been lucky enough some how to not have the blooming and bending issues everyone keeps saying about on the FMJs, well except for the 2x4 i shot, but thats another story for another day. several votes now for axis which i have shot and liked. decisions, decisions...

Tried the Black Eagles (forget which one) back when they came out... light fast arrow, and did have a few issues with no pass through two times, and once when I tipped a branch and the arrow broke in half

Right back to the Goldtip HT Hunters. VERY durable.

@Dmathews87
Gold Tips have their internal weight system, that makes tuning easy and getting the highest FOC easier too. :)
Keep in mind that a shorter and stiffer arrow will penetrate better.

For my compound I use Gold Tip Hunter XT 300 spine, at 27" with a 100 gr. brass insert, 150 gr. field tip and 3" feathers. This arrow setup has a TAW of 525 with a 22% FOC. My compound is an Elite Ritual 30, at 57# at 29" DL. I like single bevel Grizzly and Steel Force broadheads, but I also use Magnus BuzzCut and Black Hornet broadheads too. I always sharpen any broadhead, out of the package! Sometimes it's just a matter of spending a little time on a board mounted leather strop, to get that mirrored razor edge.

I've been using a heavy arrow with a high FOC for 3 years and will never go back to any thing lighter, for speed or flat trajectory. :) I don't take a shot at anything without using a laser rangefinder, so speed and flat trajectory doesn't mean anything for me. I know the yardage, set my pin and take the shot. *** The best thing about this type of setup is pass thru shots and watching the deer fall within sight!!!

For my ILF recurve, I use Gold Tip Tradtional 500 spine, at 29" with a 250 gr. field tip and 4" feathers. This arrow setup has a TAW of 540 and a 23.3% FOC. My Hoyt Satori 19" riser has Uukha Gobi short limbs, at 45#, which makes for a 60" bow length. I use the same broadheads for this bow setup, as I do for my compound. :)

Our arrows for compound are pretty close. I'm shooting Gold Tip Hunter Pros, 300 spine cut to 29 inches with 125 grain Ethics ss insert, 125 Grain Magnus Black Hornet Serazors & 3 1/2" feathers. It's coming in at 590 Grains and coming out of my Mathews vxr at 247 fps at 29 1/2" draw and 65 pounds. I believe the foc was 20 or 21%. Blows through deers like they ain't even there ;) I'm pretty sure I only paid like 55 bucks for the bare shafts on Camofire and they fly great for me. Problem is I haven't been able to find the Pros in 300 spine since.

I second this, I switched to victory arrows for my compound and longbow and I’m a big fan. Very durable and excellent quality. I recommend their rip tkos for compound.
VAP TKOs for me. Big fan of Iron Will Outfitters inserts, impact collars, and single bevel broadheads. You can pretty much dial your front end weight (FOC) to whatever you want with all of the available component combinations. I’ve shot one of my single bevels into a Matrix target about 20 times so far and it still shaves arm hair. Crazy good steel.

Wow!
I didn't see 1 post mentioning Victory arrows...
I've got at least 3 different Victory builds and I love 'em!
You beat me to the punch! I was about to mention the distinct lack of Victory arrows in this thread.

I've been using the BE X-Impacts for the past few seasons but I'm thinking about switching it up and going back to a .204 diameter arrow. I've had great luck in the past with the Victory RIP series and that's probably what I'm going to build for next season.

Black eagles are a great arrows I like the rampage but I wanted more gpi at 300 spine so I went with the Easton Axis 5mm and have been shooting them for the last 3 years with zero issues.

I like Victory too. They are okay in the budget line if you don’t get the elites.

Why did you want more gpi? I went with the 4mm as soon as they came out for the opposite reason. The 300spine in 5mm is too heavy. I have much better FOC now. shaved weight off the shaft and added it all up front.

I was young and dumb and thought TAW was most important. They actually turned out pretty good (around 19% FOC) since my DL is 29.5. I don't hunt out west so I only shoot out to 30 yards so it's a nonissue. But those Easton Axis arrows are tough as nails.

Why does one add an insert, and use a lighter head? I see this combo all of the time. For instance someone will add a 100gr insert and use a 125gr head…why not use a standard insert and a 200 gr head? If y’all are buying into the high FOC hype, y’all are probably using single bevels, and there are plenty of 200gr single bevels on the market. I’m not being facetious, I’m asking an honest question. I’ve never understood why one would I want a heavy insert when they could get close to equal weight without it. Also wouldn’t your FOC be higher if all of your weight was on the tip? A 100-200 grain insert is 3” long so that’s moving weight back towards center.

for me i already have 125gr heads so if i wanna go a bit heavier, im going to use a heavier insert and if i decide later to go back down from tinkering i wont have a bunch of 200gr heads laying around i wont shoot...im sure someone has a far better explanation than mine...
