Louisiana meet and hunt

Not a lot of acorn action going on from what I’ve seen..only one bottom that I found is dropping them but they’re raining in there.

Rubs are starting to show as well, hammered a doe last week and past up a spike so far. Been in them though so can’t complain to much

Man the acorns around here are just everywhere a lot good and a lot bad. Squirrel hunted this morning didn’t see the first squirrel feeding in the trees. Not finding deer sign around the acorns I was around though.

That’s good though. I only found one spot with good acorns but the deer and squirrels were all over them. I think a lot of the other spots I was at had most of the acorns blown off in the hurricane. I bet the deer will be in those areas you found before to long though.

I recently located to West Monroe from Baton Rouge. First year to hunt public land and been out at D’Arbonne Wildlife Refuge. Lots of acorns down with deer and squirrel activity. Buddy killed a nice 2.5 yr old 8 pt out there Saturday morning.

We still haven’t figured the time frame and location. I’m up for multiple meet ups to hunt with people, love getting to know other hunters and building relationships with them. What would be a good time frame for everyone for the kisatchi ranger district before thanksgiving?

I’m not familiar with kisatchi at all where can I find a good map and regulations about it?

Go to the ranger station o highway 117 and they can give you everything you are looking for.

Im good anytime.

Let me know what y'all decide. I'm always down for some camping and hunting. Kisatchie is pretty close and has some great areas. The colder the better for me!! :D

Not yet, I may go for a drive this weekend and check things out and pull some cameras. I’ll let y’all know if I do and what the damage is.
Side note, I’ve only lived here for a year and looked in the wma book and online and haven’t seen anything about cutting downed timber on public? I know it’s illegal to cut down live trees but can you cut up downed ones legally? If any of you local fellas know I’d appreciate the info.
I spoke with the head enforcement agent for kisatchie and he said it is legal to cut any down or
Dead trees on the forest to clear a path for hunting. He also stated you can purchase a $20 permit to be able to remove down or dead trees from the forest for firewood.

Bring a big chainsaw. I hunted two areas and scouted another. They were disaster zones. You may want to consider quartering the deer out if you kill as dragging will be very difficult this year.

Yeah that was another question I asked him. They have no issue with quartering the deer at the kill site and packing it out except for weekends they have mandatory check in.

Yeah no joke, some spots I’ve been was like climbing through an obstacle course haha
