Most disappointing products you bought

I would have added the WE Stepps to this list too but once I figured out the ropes had to be stretched, they have been a completely different product and been awesome. Granted there’s a couple trees I’ve found that they don’t work great on for me. But those have been the exception by a huge margin.

Mantis torture device

Windwalker, problem was expectations, I had it built up in my mind it was the ideal treestand, and I did not love it enough to embark on the many mods it needed to work well

Jim Stepps way too fiddly

Some pair of expensive Kenetrek boots I got as a gift, felt like I was walking on short stilts

Utah elk points I'm now 11 years into playing that stupid game and the goalline keeps getting farther away

Camera arm no idea why I bought one
So your saying that I'm really screwed with my 7u Utah points? Technically you can win the lottery any year and get a tag. Only reason that keeps me going. My buddy moved there 7 years ago, and he hasn't even gotten a limited entry tag yet as a resident. I think he's applied every year but not positive.

Technically, yes, for most of the tags it's like a 1-3% chance any given year. That's not exactly great odds, but the tags go to someone and you can't win if you don't enter. The tier of units I'm shooting for, I've calculated it out, I won't likely draw a bonus tag until my mid 40's-50's unless a lot of points ahead of me start dropping away. I'm 33 now, started getting points right out of college. And these aren't the top 5 units, but that next tier down. They just don't give many tags out in UT.

Mantis and Tethered ropes and carabiners. The only saddle items I was disappointed with.
Sitks Fanatic coat and bibs. I have a old Cabelas thinsulite coat and bibs that are warmer them this Sitka junk. I even sent these back to Sitka for evaluation and they assured me they had wind stopper and the correct insulation.

Frogg Togg rain gear. I was determine to hunt in any weather. Yes they are waterproof until you actually walk off the trail! Even the smallest branch would punch dozen of holes in them. Trash!
Not all are created equal.... The ultra lite suit tears pretty easy but they have other options that are much better

Countless numbers of no named Chinese flashlights that promised to be the best and brightest out.

I just girth hitch it around the deer's head and front hooves. For a buck I girth hitch it around the base of their antlers and front hooves. Lifts the deer up enough when you're dragging that it doesn't catch on ground debris as much.

For me, it's the Tethrd Skeletor sticks. I'm pretty sure the sticks will be great.....but the process of getting them to a "usable" state has been less than enthralling. One came with a damaged button. Then they sent out replacement button bolts (originals were too short) and the lower standoffs have a design flaw that makes them prone to bending.

All of these issues have or are being fixed (new design standoffs with thicker walls and beveled bottom edge are on their way to me).

I just don't appreciated being turned into a "new product tester" nor having to bitch at them the amount required to get them to "make it right". Though I guess if I had done a bit more research on new product releases from Tethrd, I would have found out that this is a fairly common process with their new products.

Whole process just left a bad taste. Will be a bit more diligent in my research and selection of product vendors in the future as a result.

Unfortunately this statement is applicable to most companies in this industry.

Tethrd: Predator, ONE sticks, Skeletors all needed rework out the gate

LWCG: That bow holder already has been redesigned, ambush reworked first round of treestands and sticks were awful messes

Beast: they had to rework the stick standoffs right away, beast stand they changed the off set bracket and added stiffeners very quickly after release

OOAL: The Sh1kar had the clam cleat problem and they had to rework the monarch, This Bob kinda makes me nervous to be honest. Not sure on how much testing has been done there.

Timberninja immediately redesigned the steps because of the ugly flex

I am missing a lot but you get the point. I helped design the catalyst ION and they rushed that believe it or not. He opened orders way before the design was completely done then refused to make changes cuz he decided to prematurely cut all the platforms….

Probably due to the small size and market for saddle hunting product companies.

But that still makes me nervous when my life is on the line with some of these products. I'm interested in the BOB.....but am gonna wait for a few months to see if there are any "bugs" in it that need to be worked out. Once burned, twice shy!

That being said, I would expect many/most of the companies are aware of saddlehunter.com...and reaching out to the more experienced people here to get them to test new products ahead of time would likely resolve many of these issues before mass production/sales. I know some companies do this.....others should emulate that approach. It would be cheap "product testing".....for the sake of sending out some preliminary samples. Note: I am NOT an experienced saddle hunter, so would not be an appropriate choice.

So if u have a product u didn't want the masses to see and diy before u release, u would send said item to total strangers and just hope they keep it to themselves? Maybe if they lived close and u had a real world relationship....

Sometimes the best feedback comes from the "least experienced"
