Most disappointing products you bought

Mantis torture device

Windwalker, problem was expectations, I had it built up in my mind it was the ideal treestand, and I did not love it enough to embark on the many mods it needed to work well

Jim Stepps way too fiddly

Some pair of expensive Kenetrek boots I got as a gift, felt like I was walking on short stilts

Utah elk points I'm now 11 years into playing that stupid game and the goalline keeps getting farther away

Camera arm no idea why I bought one

Kenetrek boots are a bit stiff but man you might have missed out on a great pair of boots. After some break in they are an amazing boot for per personally at least.

Also, another guy that doesn't like the Stepps. I love them things

Two of my favorite purchases you don't like lol. I am certainly glad I never bought a Mantis with all the dislike I've been seeing

Satellite broadheads, carry-lite decoys, baker treestands, smith & wesson shotguns, remington duplex shotgun shells, red ball waders, several flashlights/headlights,

Oh boy… this could be a very long list…

Wild Edge Stepps…. Wild Edge should of never rebranded the Jim Stepp. Belongs in the trash where they found it.
I could easily see why people hate those. They’re an acquired taste for sure. I love them for portability on state land and (for me) ease of use. Not sure why but I’ve never had an issue with them once I got used to them.

Hawk climber tree stand. I started hunting with a summit someone let me borrow, bought my own and went with hawk, still trying to get rid of that POS. Very comfortable to sit in once you’re up…but getting up and hauling that thing into the woods was a CHORE. It’s 99% of the reason I even looked into saddles.
Rage broad heads, my arrows run a little short so they hit my drop away rest when I pull back, I also lost a buck shooting rage. Not a fan, switched to NAP spitfires, love them.

Bullpac backpack. Not that it’s bad, it’s in fact built like a tank. I just have never used it. I bought it 20 years ago after an elk hunt thinking I would use it next elk hunt and I’ve never been back, probably never will. I let a guy borrow it to use on a caribou hunt and he said it was amazing. I’ll have to take his word for it.

Too many to list, but if we are all honest with ourselves, 90-95% of the latest and greatest products we buy to make us better hunters are either all hype or do nothing to actually help us harvest more or bigger animals. The best ones for me usually improve comfort in some manner.

I've heard great things about the bullpac frame. I like that they have an attachment for your ALICE pack.

I’m sure I’m going to get burned for this one. But I was not impressed with the quality of the Tethrd predator XL. Didn’t even get it on a tree. I’m sure it would have worked fine. I like the design of it. But the quality of the metal and parts is a serious let down for me for all the hype and support this thing gets. I cannot believe the post that comes warped well over 1/4” to one side is acceptable quality control. Just couldn’t get past that. I was quite suspect of the quality before buying and (for me) I was right. Bummer.

Agreed. Buying new and shiny mousetraps is easier then getting out and scouting or practicing with the equipment that you already own. You can make hunting as simple or as complex and expensive as you want. I'm guilty of the buy and purge cycle. I'm trying to avoid it as much as possible. I start questioning whether some people actually hunt or they just like buying and selling things in the classifieds.

The early ones were pretty bad. Warped and large voids in the cast. They are much better now though. With that said the XL was a pain to pack IMO.

Hate to admit but I feel like I was in the second category you mentioned, at least for a while. Trying very hard to level out and get off of the gear so much. I think I’m making pretty good progress.
